Paris - Major Monet exhibit at Marmottan 7-Octto 20-Feb
 

I sense that most people are focusing on the one at the Grand Palais. The Marmottan is also doing a major axhibition, having on display its compete collection of Monet (world's largest), including some drawings, corespondence,etc..

So if you are finding it hard to get tickets to the 'downtown' shpw, come out to the 16th, see one of the nicer arrondissements of Paris, perhaps look for the Guimard designed buildings, maybe a nice fish dinner at Rotonde de la Muette.

Saw both exhibits and while both were great the Grand Palais takes the prize> Book and print your tickets online. You'll still have to wait a bit to get in even with timed entries. They only allow so many people up the stairs at once to go thru security. Guess they don't want liability if someone falls over!

If you are arriving in Paris by Eurostar you can get 2 for 1 entry. also book the other exhibit 1500 , it too is well worth the extra few euros.

The exhibit at the Petit Palais , revelations, was most interesting. They have taken great paintings, and have prints of them side by side with HD screens detailing all the parts of the paintings. And it FREE!

Michel, the Marmottan sounds like a great alternative and I'd love to see a few examples of Guimard's work.

We will be in Paris next week and have tried unsuccessfully to get tickets to the Grand Palais exhibit. Do you know if they reserve any tickets for the walk-up public or is it completely sold out?

Also do you have any information regarding the renovations at the Orsay? Have the majority of the impressionists works been relocated?

When we visited Monet at Grand Palais there were two lines: one for people with reservation and another, very long, for people without.
Our reservation was at 20:00; we arrived there at 19:30 and could enter imediately. Our friends had reservation for 13:00 and they had to wait at a long line.So, I suppose that later is better.

Take in consideration the advice of Avalon - a visit at Petit Palais is a very nice experience. You can spend there a full morning, the building is beautiful, the paintings, statues are very good and the part where you can see on HD screen details of the picture, even animation is a great idea.
