Paris lunch on the cheap / restos pas tres cher
Perhaps a bit more costly than a <<crepe au coin> but this site appears to offer some nice alternatives for travelers looking to economize on lunch

It's nice to see a site that matches my concept of cheap instead of the people who seem to think that 25 euros is "cheap."

Looks good, thanks!

Noted. Will test.

Interesting, although the reason they are cheap isn't really that magical, if you look at their locations (cheaper real estate, obviously) and decor. Also, in some cases it's just because you only get 2 courses and the place is very bare bones. If that's what you want, fine, but some people aren't looking just for the cheapest possible way to eat.
One place in the 6th arr looks like a good value for what you get, however, especially given you seem to get 3 courses (Petit Olivier). |

Christina has validated the reverse snob appeal. Hurray!

Duly noted. Thanks, Seamus, a man after my own heart.

Good stuff, Seamus. Thanks. Since we tend to hang out in the 20ème a lot, we've accumulated a lot of inexpensive places to grab a great bite to eat, but this will extend our reach:)

Look for tea rooms, "salon de thé." You can get light lunches there for good prices.
|
A very interesting place to have an inexpensive lunch is in the Foyer de Madeleine. Volunteers serve a simple but adequate lunch for around €8. You need to join the charity with a €5 donation first, but then you can eat there as regularly as you wish.

Thanks! Will keep this in mind for next Paris trip.

I know that most people will not wander by accident into my neighborhood, but places like La Maison Thai on rue de l'Evangile or Bangla Food on rue Marx Dormoy serve up huge plates (or take-away barquettes) for 5 euros. It is enough for two people. La Maison Thaï is particularly popular because it has a queue of from 10 to 20 people going out the door at noon every work day. Everybody buys things to take away only because it is the size of a closet and I think has seating for a maximum of 4 people. When it runs out of food around 2pm, it just closes for the day.

kerouac, thank you for those notes. We have been lamenting of late that it has been far too long since our last Paris visit. We've been often enough, together and separately, that we find sheer joy in discovering such local gems. The high end places are still fun, but somehow these make even better memories.
