Paris:Location info needed

Will be in Paris for 2 days and 3 nights . What is an ideal location/neighbouhood ?I heard public transport is pretty good but cant figure out where to look for hotels in those 20 zones or whatever the heck they call it in french .Arondissements ...or something

Depends on your interests and what you will be doing while in Paris. The 1-8 Arrondisements are the most centrally located. Public transport is excellent. We prefer the 6th Arr. for hotels.

There is a brief description of each arrondissement in the above thread...no need to recreate the wheel, as they say...

I was there last week and stayed in the 9th, at the Millennium Opera. It was very centrally located, with two different Metro lines within a block or two.

Personally, we like the 6th arrondissement, near Saint Germain des Prés. It's centrally located and close to bus and metro. Easy to get to the 5th or the 7th, but you can hop a bus and be in the L'Opera area very quickly... even quicker on the metro, I'd bet.

Best,
Sandy

The Paris Arrondisements are set up this way. 1st is around the Lourve, then it goes in a clockwise spiral out of there, first by going North, then East, and then South. After crossing the Seine between 4th and 5th, it then goes West, and so on...

More important than which Arron. is how far your hotel actually is from a Metro train. And if you're taking public transport from the airport, how far the hotel actually is from a RER-B station or an airport bus stop.
