Paris: Le Vieux Bistro, Chez Julien, La Relagade?

Thinking ahead to my trip in May--I've never been to any of these; any rants or raves about them? Thank you for any info!

Relagade is my favorite, it's very close to the Parc Montsouris(worth a stroll)Be sure to book as soon as possible.

Sue,
I agree with mimi!
We had a terrific 3 course, 30 euro p.p. dinner at la Regalade last week. With our bottle of Bearn vin du pays our bill was 89 euros for 2. We booked (by phone) almost a month in advance. They require a hotel contact # to take your reservation and ask you to reconfirm by phone or fax either the night before or the morning of your reservation. It's extremely popular, particularly in the evening. We chose the 9 p.m. seating, but some diners arrived as late as 10:30.

mimi,
Thanks for that clarification on the "absenthe" that we saw-wasn't sure exactly what it was!

Chez Julien is one of my favorites.
Most tourists don't know about it as it rarely shows up in guidebooks any more.
Friendly service, old-fashioned decor, moderate prices, very good food.

Hi sue

Le Vieux Bistro is one of my favorite bistros in Paris. The restaurant is small, quaint, and the food is delicious. The beef bourgigan (sp??) is incredible, the tarte tatin comes to your table alite and your given a huge old fashioned looking vat of creme fraice (wow my spelling is bad). I believe this restaurant is also known for its escargot, frog legs and filet mignon. When I was there last October, I was surrounded by French families, very nice. And the staff couldn't be friendlier. In my opinion, one of the best bistros. I hope you go... it's really good. (been there twice - good each time).

Is Le Vieux Bistro (24, rue Chanoinesse, 4th) the same as Vieux Paris? Please advise. Thank you.

Here's another recommendation for Chez Julien. I can still remember each course of our meal there! Very romantic (rendered even more so by musicians strolling about outside, with the windows all about open and lace curtains fluttering in the breeze...)

I'm with Candy and Cara. Where are these restaurants? I too am confused if Vieux Bistro is the same as Vieux anything else, as I can't find it listed. And I do know where Park Montsouris is, but where exactly is Relagade?
But I do know Chez Julien -- simply wonderful!!!!

I apologize about saying I knew where Chez Julien was and then keeping that information to myself. It is at the corner (sort of a point, actually) of Rue Pont Louis Phillipe and Hotel de Ville, on the right bank.
Pont Louis Phillipe is the bridge from Ile St. Louis to the right bank that is at the west end of the island. In other words if you go to the back part of Notre Dame and walk across the bridge to Ile St. Louis and take the first left on the Ile, you'll go across that bridge and run into Chez Julien just a half block past the river.

Patrick, the main street in front of the parc entrance is Ave Jean Moulin and that is where the Regalade is, several blocks up in the easterly direction.I think I saw the vieux bistro discussed on the bonjour paris forum.

Hi Patrick,
To reach la Regalade we took the metro line 4 to the Alessia stop (next to the last), then walked south down Jean Moulin about 4 blocks towards Place de la Porte de Chatillon. It's on the left hand side.

you don't have to worry if the restaurants that interest you are listed on the website you mentioned.
YOu can have your hotel reserve them for you if you don't want to call yourself

We ate at Le Vieux Bistro in October and found it only so-so. The food was okay, and they tried to charge us for something we didn't order. On the other hand, the tarte tatin IS impressive, as noted above.

I've never dined at Chez Julien or La Regalade but I do have the following info regarding these restaurant:

Chez Julien
1, rue Pont Louis-Phillipe
4th arrondissement
Metro Stop: Pont Marie
T#01 42 78 31 64
Closed Sundays

La Regalade
49, avenue Jean Moulin
14th arrondissement
Metro Stop: Alesia
T# 01 45 45 68 58

Candy and Patrick, the address for Le Vieux Bistro is 14, rue du Cloitre Notre-Dame. (If you were to stand facing the front of Notre-Dame, rue du Cloitre Notre-Dame is the street that runs along the left side of Notre-Dame.) Its been a couple of years since last my husband and I dined at Le Vieux Bistro but we very much enjoyed the entire experience on the three occasions that we were there. Its also open on Sundays. Reservations recommended (T# 01 43 54 18 95).

I just received an email from a Mary C. who said she was unable to post to Fodors today for some reason and asked me if I would do it for her. She explained the difference between two different Le Vieux Paris restaurants and Le Vieux Bistro plus gave its location which has now already been given so I won't repeat it here. But she also said this about Le Vieux Bistro:

"The only thing is that it is so small and homey that most people miss it. I did not even notice the 1st trip when I was trekking up the norther street - but then again I was completely in awe of the cathedral itself and was the ultimate tourist gawking up at the architectural details and didn't pay attention to the other side of the street."

Sorry, but another thumbs down on Le Vieux Bistro. We had lunch there in October (sunday) and it was definitely just so-so. We had chosen it for a rendevouz with friends and we all wished we'd gone elsewhere.
