Paris layover for 4 hours, what to do?

I HATE to discourage anybody from visiting Paris - but I'm afraid that 4 hours won't be enough time to do anything. Assuming that your plane arrives perfectly on time (yea, right) you are the first person off of the plane and can get directly onto a train or into a cab - you're still 45 minutes or so out of the city. Depending on how early they start checking in your connecting flight, you may only have about 2 hours tops in the city. You could take a really expensive tour by cab, or stop into a cafe and have a relatively quick meal, but if there are any traffic or train problems on the way back to the airport, you could be in big trouble...

Hi Darlene:
Go shopping. The shopping in CDG is great. Chocolates, wines, jams etc. 4 hours is really not a very long time and if your flight is delayed at all you won't even have 4 hours. The trip into paris without traffic is at least 45 minutes. Too much anxiety for me!!

Have to agree with the others. 4 hours is simply not enough time. The minute you arrived in Paris you'd have to turn around and leave in time to board the plane. If you had say 6 hours I'd probably say go for it and at least see the Eiffel Tour, the river and maybe the Arch de Triomphe, but 4 hours makes it way too tight. I'm afraid you'd be too concerned about making it back in time to board the plane to even enjoy what little time you did have.
