Paris- Last Minute Outerwear Question
 

Help- I'm leaving on Monday for Paris and Brittany. I have a coat dilemma...long black Angora/wool coat or black knee length lined rain coat? The problem is that I'm in love with the first coat and don't particularly care for the second one, but I fear that if it's raining a lot, I'll be better off with the second one. Would it be insane to lug both coats over for a 9 day trip? Also, I bought a pair of comfortable and warm suede boots- would I be better off just bringing my two pairs of leather walking shoes? This is mostly a question for those who are in Paris now. Thank you so much.

Take the coat (it sounds fabulous!) and buy an umbrella.

Unless you are very unlucky it won't be raining all the time.

And as ira says, check the weather forecast.

PS...(Last week I went to Dublin - the forecast told me it would rain every day, so I took the knee length raincoat - apart from a few spits it was dry for the entire trip, so I could have taken the nice coat after all!)

I did check the weather forecast before I posted and it looked like rain, but I was hoping things might change in a day or two. Guess I'll go with my favorite coat and an umbrella.

We were in Paris last month and it was really cold. I had taken two coats and ended up wearing the warmer one most of the time. Be sure you take a warm scarf, hat, and gloves. I wore tights under my slacks and socks. Are your boots waterproff? Nothing worse than wet feet. My husband had these leather gloves that had no lining and his hands were cold the entire time. You can always buy cold weather gear while you are there if you need to. I bought a shawl which I wore ove my coat.

Can you tell I'm a real wus when it comes to cold weather? Maybe because I live in So. Ca. I would never wear them but those Ug Boots were looking pretty good to me by the 3rd day. Oh, take the boots and wear the shoes on the plane. I usually end up buying more shoes in Paris.

i would go with the wool. i've taken mine on three trips to paris recently because it's just right. we were there in november and it was COLD. my husband regretted having a leather blazer w/ rain coat over it. and it's likely to be cold now.

unless your wool coat is terribly heavy, i'd go for that. scotchgard it and bring an umbrella. better, buy one there!
