Flygirl, thanks so much for all the suggestions and the link you provided also has great information! While I won't have a car, it seems like it's fairly easy to get around the lake by ferry and I'll definitely be looking into some of the recommended hikes. The one to the UNESCO World Heritage site in Lenno sounds great.
