Paris - Kitchen Store
 

I've read on another post (which I can't seem to find anywhere now) about a great Kitchen store in Paris. I remember the poster saying it was large and had everything you could think of. This is probably very general information, but unfortunately it's all I can remember.

Does anyone know what store I am referring to and what area of Paris it is located?

It's near Les Halles and easy to find.

There are a number of kitchenware shops in the 1st and 2nd arrondissements. E. Dehillerin at 18 rue Coquillière is probably the most widely known, followed by A. Simon at 36 rue Etienne Marcel. These and others are in the vicinity of the Les Halles or Etienne Marcel métro stations.

Also don't forget the Bazar de l'Hotel de Ville, BHV, on rue de Rivoli.

Note that Dehillerin and Simon cater to professionals. You're expected to know what you want. The merchandise is all of professional quality, and sometimes of professional dimensions (i.e., designed for preparation of food in large quantities). They sell restaurant equipment, too, such as those little menu signs that you see outside so many Parisian restaurants.

Another place with interesting kitchen stuff (although it is not specialized) is Résonances at Bercy Village or Val d'Europe.

Based on your description, I think you're talking about BHV. It's a large department store, not has "haute" as the grand stores. In my trip report I was wowed by their huge selection of housewares, lighting, bath items, etc.

We spent a very happy morning shopping there. Closed Sunday.

Geneviève Lethu has several location around Pairs. They carry gagets, dishes, linens, and other table & kitchen accessories.I don't have the locations, but I think there in one on Rue Saint-Antoine in the 4th.

Great, thank you for all the responses ... :) I'll research the stores mentioned. :) I'm certainly not a professional when it comes to cooking .. but I try :)

I do remember the post being from a mother who took her teen daughter to Paris. The report was posted a month or two ago I thought. I think that is where I 1st heard about the kitchen place. I could be totally wrong but for some reason that post sticks in my mind. I read so many paris threads a day I forget what I've read where. I could have sworn I saved it but couldn't find it last night!

E. Dehillerin is not just for professional chefs. During my pilgrimage, it was filled with housewives, grandmothers, yuppies. In general, people who simply love to cook and take it seriously. Go.
