Paris jazz/dinner
What can you tell me about Le Petit Journal Montparnasse in Paris? We've read it's a recommended jazz supper club---Is it (foof, music, etc) good? What to wear? Whatever info will be much appreciated! Thanks.

Le Petit Journal sounds like fun.
For another choice, a good friend of ours, a jazz trumpeter who spends a month in Paris every year, recommends Le Relais de l'Isle, a small restaurant on the Ile St. Louis. From June through September they have a pianist every evening, and in October through May, Friday-Saturday-Sunday evenings. This is a very small place and reservations are advised. http://www.lerelaisdelisle.fr/index.htm |
I followed your link and see that you are (?) a restaurant on Ile St Louis. We'll be in Paris on May 2. Do you have music/piano in the evening?
|
Not sure why you think it's my link and that I am a restaurant. I have NO connection with this restaurant and am just passing along a recommendation from a friend. As I wrote above, in October through May the pianist is there on Fri-Sat-Sun evenings. May 2 is a Wednesday, so there's your answer.

The Viaduct Cafe by the canal has a Sunday jazz brunch.

To Maine GG---I can be so obtuse! DUH!
Thanks for the recommendation. |
OK, back to the original question. We have been to Le Petit Journal in Montparnasse. It was quite enjoyable - a large room with lots of people, lots of tables. Food wasn't bad, not memorable. Don't worry AT ALL about what to wear. There are so many people, dim light during the performance, no one will care.
I think if there is someone you want to hear, it's worth while. If not, probably not. It;s not a 'charming' little jazz club. |
