Paris-Italy

I am planning a trip in early October from Philadelphia, PA to Paris France, staying in Paris for 4 days then taking a train to Rome.
I have 7 days to spend in Italy and would like to see Florence and Venice. Any Ideas on all of this and does anyone know how long the train ride from Paris to Italy would be?

Do yourself a favor,check out the cost of flying rather than taking the train.I was pleasantly surprised w/deal i got from Alitalia.You have plenty of time to get a good price.The train ride is overnight,check out their prices and you'll see like I did,fly!

Forget flying! The train ride from Paris to Rome was one of the most beautiful memories I have of my trip. The train goes along the Italian coast, and it was breathtaking. It was a long trip though, we had a sleeper car and it took all night to get there.

Debbie;
my advice is to ditch the train if at all possible it looses it's romance fast; besides you do not have a lot of time; spend it where it counts in one of Italy's beautiful cities.
I flew from Paris to Venice for hardly anything; and you could then take a trian from Venice to either Rome or Florence
La Dolce Italy
Sherri

Debbie
I'm not sure why you are taking the train from Paris to Rome. Are you spending time in Rome in addition to Florence and Venice?

I recommend flying just to save time, or else think about the night train from Paris to Venice. Spend a couple of days in Venice at least, then move on to Florence or Rome. Rome is about a 4.5 hour train tride from Venice, about 2 hours from Florence I think.
Last year I flew from Rome to Venice and it cost just a little over $100.

I have some trip and train information in my files; if you'd like to see any of it, email me.

Have you considered flying easy jet from Paris to Geneva for about 17US and spending a night or two then boarding the day train 8AM to venice it arrives about 5PM. You could get off in Milano and make connections to Florence , then go to Venice , then to Roma-all on daylight time.
