Paris -- Is there any nightlife in the 7th

I usually stay in the 6th, but this trip I'm branching out to the 7th. If I want to stay in the 7th some evenings, what is there to do after dinner, other than take a nice walk? Appreciate your suggestions.

Loads of cafés open late on the Place Ecole Militaire, rue Ste-Dominique, rue Cler, rue de Grenelle, all around, really.

What are you looking for in terms of "nightlife?" If nightclubs, jazz clubs and such, probably not much, but I've certainly spent many an evening hanging out in a café in the 7th until well past midnight with plenty of other people around.

thanks, StCirq. That will probably fit the bill. Are there any jazz or other small music clubs in the 7th that you know of?

Hi, iregeo, actually I can't think of any. I'm helping a friend with a French itinerary right now and it seems most of the jazz clubs and such are elsewhere in the city, most notably in the 6th, which certainly isn't far away.

The 7th is mainly residential and the home of certain institutions and government buildings, it's not a destination for clubs and things like that for nightlife. Jazz clubs are mainly on the Right Bank, although there are a couple in the 5th, 6th and 14th. The 7th isn't really a hotbed of places to go out (I don't think it even has a cinema), other than cafes. I think you'll have to go elsewhere, but it's not that far to the 6th. I think they have jazz sometimes in the Hotel Lutetia which is on the border of the 7th and 6th. That and the Bilboquet on rue St-Benoit near St-Germain metro stop are probably the closest, other than the Petit Journal Montparnasse near the Gaite metro in the 14th.

Maybe not your cup of tea, but we spent a couple evenings on the Champs du Mars. In July it was hopping at night, with tons of people walking around and playing on the grass. If you don't mind being around tourists, it's a fun place to meet people and enjoy a bottle of wine.

The 7th is a district of retirees, government agencies, and the like. There is very little nightlife, which can be good or bad, depending on what you are looking for.

The Seventh does have one cinema, but it's quite a special one: La Pagode, which is not only an art-house cinema, but also a shining example of 19th-century Japanese architecture, right in the rue Babylone.

I think the wildest nightlife in the Seventh is at the evening parties that one sometimes hears and sees in the offices of the main UNESCO building (UNESCO has its headquarters in the Seventh, which somewhat represents the overall tone of the district).
