Glad you are having a good time. Enjoying the photos! |
This is somewhat reassuring - we arrive 28th and are booked to stay through 3rd January in the 14th which, AFAIK, remains unscathed by protests.
|
We’ll be there on the 22nd—staying in the 11th so that’s probably good. But I’m hoping the rioters want to take Christmas off.

Thank you starrs. She is being born next week in NY. I got her Sophie the giraffe stuff and we found the cutest store 123 famile that had great toys. Jim is checking a bag because he could not resist a knife, his third one he has bought at E. Dehillerin. I got my niece an oyster knife since he did that. Now we have three bottles of Euvanol to take home. I can buy that mavis toothpaste today and throw in his checked bag. I hate waiting in Orlando for bags but he also bought a large tube of 2% V rub. I told him to take it back and get two small but he didn't. I got a small size for a friend. I did get an anniversary Longchamp bag. I bought it in Lille. I want some calendars and usually, the museum stores have the best.
I think everything is back to normal. Clean up of monuments and streets. So hoping they get this settled this week. My brother and his wife bought cheap tickets for Jan. It will be warmer than where they live in the Adirondacks. They got air Canada tickets out of Montreal which is a short drive for them. We change planes there on Monday. Miami/ American airlines have rt tickets to Paris for under 300 if anyone is interested. |
Macross........granddaughters are such a joy, congrats! Maybe for your future trips to Paris check out Mini Junior on Montparnasse and Raspail. Sizes 0-16. Through the years we have bought our granddaughters favorite outfits there. The quality outstanding. Across the street on Rue Vavin are many baby shops. A go to stop on every trip. Just sayin’
https://www.yelp.com/biz/mini-junior-paris Glad to hear Paris is calmer today. We arrive on Wed. |
TPAYT, we are so close but many places closed today and we leave in the morning. Belguim had smocked dresses. I love those. She is my great niece.
Cleaning up today. There were workers all over cleaning streets and picking up garbage. Some people are just using the protest to do damage. We saw broken windows and bus station glass protectors shattered. I do hope they work out a deal by next weekend. The shops and restaurants are not making money and sure they don't pay staff that need to work. Where are you staying? My sister in law was on the Champs Elysees the first weekend and had tickets for the opera. Her pictures are good though! On tv, they were showing all the protesters, police and tear gas but there was one guy alone wheeling his suitcase across the street. |
Macross....we’re 1 night at The Madison Hotel on St. Germain. (1 night or more in a hotel lowers the airfare) then we are in an apt. on Place Dauphine on Ile de Cite. So not too close to Champs. E.
we’ve never been to Paris in winter so we are looking forward to a different viewpoint. We were last there in June with our 13 yr. old granddaughter. I’ve enjoyed your posts and the info is quite helpful. |
Just flew home today after a quick weekend in Paris. Most of the shops on Ile St. Louis were open yesterday. Place des Vosges was a ghost town but we did have lunch at l’Ange20. We stayed in the 6th and the bars/restaurants were open. Had wine at Freddy’s before going next door to Semilla which was packed.

ROFL!
We had lunch at L'Ange 20 on Thursday. I had the magret de canard salad and the Anouillette with moutarde and potatoes. The waiter was a regular Mr Chatterbox. 🤣 Food was good but not nearly as good as at Pottoka, where we literally wiped out plates with bread. I made animal noises whilst eating because my food was so good. Home now. Au Revoir, Thin |

Lunch at L'Ange 20. Andouillette with mustard sauce and potatoes. Very tasty. Thin |
This will all be reopened very soon. They are loosing too much money! ;)

On Facebook, I saw video of a "protest" involving the gilets jaunes that featured people dancing, accordions, and horns. Clearly something goes amiss between that sort of thing and burning cars.
|
I'm glad that you dare to love andouillette -- and post a photo of it -- it disgusts lots of people, even some of the French.
|
The English and Welsh are used to eating offal. I love black pudding, suet, bone marrow, tripe, thymus, chitlins, etc.

I will be keeping an eye on this discussion if you don't mind. Haven't been to paris in 30 years and we are going Dec. 30th to Jan. 3 and unfortunately staying near where all of the protests have been. Thinking we will still go but looking for a different hotel (we were treating ourselves to Hotel Lancaster). Do please keep posting will you?
Thank you! macswim |
Not locked down today (15 December), although demonstrations are scheduled again. Some shop and café windows boarded up, and some, but not all, sights closed (or turn it round, transport seems to be planned to run normally, the main department stores will be open, as will the Opera and the Louvre. But one might expect to have to go through more security checks, and to see armed police around.
https://france3-regions.francetvinfo...s-1592701.html And rain is forecast for this afternoon. |
Heard on radio there are more police than demonstrators...
My wife is in Paris right now, I'll ask her when she is back. |
I just watched some live France reports. Very dreary looking day. I think the yellow jackets are more spread out in the city. Seems calm. I bet the security forces are in force at the department stores. BTW, we got wanded twice going into stores and my husband's bag had two big knives from E. Dehillerin. They never dinged. Great security.
