Paris internet cafes
 

We like to keep in touch with home by email when we are away. Our hotel in London was just a couple of blocks away from a cafe, and we were able to easily find them in larger Irish cities. How prevalent are they in Paris? I have done a search on google, but nothing beats the feedback from those who have been there and done that!

allisonm - In the past couple of years I have stayed in the 3rd, 5th and 7th and had no trouble finding an internet cafe. Actually they seemed more prevalent to me in Paris than in London when I was there in October. In which arrondisement are you staying?

Thanks Mara, we'll be in the 13th. I was thinking the 5th might have a few because of all the students, and we'll be just "over the border."

Patrick found a good internet cafe on his last Paris trip, I'll see if I can bring up his post, or maybe he'll jump in here . . .

Ok, it was easier to find than I thought. Patrick, I hope you don't mind, but I copied this from your post:

All the hotels we've stayed in recently have had internet access and it was free. There is a HUGE one near Rue Christine in the 6th, right off Rue du Buci..sorry I can't remember the precise address...but I will be happy to lead you there if you want to get me to Paris to accompnay you!


If you are a "touch typist" the French keyboards are not a problem...there is a place where you select "English keyboard" and type away. The computer overides the French keyboard positions.

However..if you are a 2 finger ,hunt and peck it is no use at all!

That's interesting because I don't think they are that easy to find in Paris. They tend to be around the areas with lower incomes (and younger, probably, or students) and more tourists, which is probably natural. The 13th is pretty out of that description and the ones in the 5th/6th tend to be more near the Seine.

There is a good one in Buttes aux Cailles in the 13th. That's the only one I know down there. It's the Sputnik internet cafe/bar on rue Buttes aux Cailles, not far from that divey but fun bar with live music, I forget its name. I don't know of any internet cafes near the bottom border of the 5th. My favorite one is in Montparnasse, which might work for you. It's in the first block just south of bd Montparnasse and is called e-something. It's either on rue Montparnasse or Odessa. It has very good rates, a couple QWERTY keyboards and is quiet and friendly. Also, in the summer, it is air-conditioned.

Uh-oh. Old age is creeping in. I can't remember the name of that internet place described above that I sent a post from last summer on St. Andre des Arts. It's obviously the one jody is talking about also. But if you walk from Buci towards Place Michel on St. Andre des Arts, you sure can't miss it. It was 14.90 euro for a full week of unlimited use!!

There's a nice Internet cafe right opposite the Luxembourg Gardens. Another possibility is the computer center at the Palais de la Decouverte, which also has a very nice gift shop--especially for kids. Use of the computers is free with admission to the museum, and a big advantage is that the whole place is smoke-free.

There were several in the 5th near the Sorbonne. There is a very large one just as you head down rue de la Harpe from Blvd. St. Germain.

We didn't use them, but they are all over the place. You will have no trouble finding one.

When we were in Paris last year in May and October, we found plenty of internet cafes with ample QWERTY keyboards.

During one stay in the 5th Arr., while we were walking to a specific "cool" internet cafe that we found in advance on the web, we passed three internet cafes along the way that charged only a fraction of what the cool cafe charged.

I found that internet cafes in Paris are so prevalent that now I don't worry about having a specific internet cafe address in advance.

I know 2 internet cafes in the 14th district, just near the 13th district: The first one is near the Gare Montparnasse but it's quite expensive. Now, I go to an internet cafe which is really not expensive (1,50 for a quarter of hour, 2 euros for half an hour, 3 euros for one hour and 5 euros for 2 hours and you have one month to use your "credit"). Their computers are really good ones. It's located 157 Boulevard Montparnasse, near the RER station Port Royal. It's called Cibernil" I think.

We also used the one Patrick mentioned in a post, it is probably the best one we have come across anywhere. There are also a couple on Blvd St Germain, but they are nowhere as big as the one on St Andre des Arts.

I found one that had "English" keyboards, the people were nice and spoke English too. It's called ZNET, www.zeidnet.com, they're at 18 rue de la Bucherie on the 5th, their phone no. is 01-44-07-20-15 and they charge 5 Euros per per hour. They're open 7 days a week, on weekdays between 10:00-22:00, and on the weekend between 12:00-20:00.
