Paris Interesting Tours?
I will be visiting Paris for the first time in early February, I am an enormous history buff. I have heard of the crypt tour, and am extremly interested, thus I have two questions, the first is how to get to and what is the best way of going about getting into the crypt tour; and the second is if anyone knows of any Paris ghost walks similar to the London "Jack the Ripper" Tour. Any French Revolution or Reign of Terror Tour would be very interesting!
Thank You! Lucaya |
Not sure of a 'crypt' tour, you just go to the Paris Catacombes at Denfert Rochereau in the 14th arrondissement, get in line, pay your entry fee, and ramble through the underground tunnel until you exit a few streets south of where you went in.
Paris doesn't have any ghosts so no 'ghost tours' either (that I've ever read or heard about). I'm sure you can find pleny of historical walking tours, though. |
Do you mean the crypt at Notre Dame?
Regarding ghosts, the only one I know of is the ghost of Marie Antoinette, who is supposed to be sighted on the grounds at Versailles with some frequency each August 11. |
The Notre Dame Crypt isn't a burial-place, by the way. It's an archaeological excavation of the underpinnings of the area around the cathedral, including lots of early Paris history depicted in myriad maps and models.
Les Egouts over by the Orsay offers a guided tour of the sewer system that's been in use for centuries. Very interesting, but bring a nosegay if you're susceptible to strong odor. |
Paris walks, which is recommended by London Walks, has a French revolution walk--as well as other historical walks. The website is http://www.paris-walks.com/

What a total lack of imagination. They should cart their clients around in tumbrils, for heaven's sake!

thanks everyone! A lot of good suggestions, when I said "ghost tour", I really only meant the historical tours which deal with the more macabre points in history...I know that the whole ghost sighting thing is a little out of it.
Thank you! |
