Paris Insects?

Rick Steves' recommended packing list includes insect repellant (noting: especially in France)

Should I add this to my packing list for May trip to Paris? (I don't want to bring anything that I won't need.)

? I wasn't aware that Paris has such a problem that you'd need repellant in May. I don't believe you'll need this; perhaps Rick Steves is referring to the rural areas?

I lived in Brittany for 3 years and traveled through most French regions--I never was bothered by insects at any time of year. If for some reason it is an "insect" year, you can buy some over there if and when you need it, IMO.

Now Venice was another matter!

I bet you are right and he is referring to rural areas. At least I haven't seen any other references to this being a problem.

Thanks for the reply.
