Paris In The Winter!
 

Hi,

I'm considering going to Paris in early March, 2005. Has anyone every been there, during that time? if so, how is the weather?

..variable..NOT snowy..can be very drizzly and damp but at other times lovely and spring like..(see weatherunderground for historical temps)..dont expect to sit for hours on sidewalk cafes though somedays you maybe able to...great for sight seeing though.

We were there from the last week in February til 3rd week of March. It was cold the first week but very pleasant after that. Crowds were sparse in all but the most touristy places. Of course, it can differ from year to year. We didn't encounter any snow and just a bit of rain. One disadvantage is few of the fountains were going yet after being shut down from the winter and flowers had't yet really started to bloom.

March is hardly winter. Have been there in March--could be warm, cool, rainy,clear--as it was for the week we were there.

HI--we were just there in mid-March of this year and the weather varied from very raw and windy(!!) w/occasional snow flurries, (one day of rain) to quite pleasant--mid 50's or even a little warmer. I brought a medium weight microfiber jacket but was very grateful that at the last minute, I took my large wool shawl and a long cashmere scarf. On several of the days, I would have suffered during our very long walks, were it not for those lifesavers!! (Shawl draped over the jacket w/the scarf wrapped around double and knotted at the neck.) We went b/c my husband had business. It was great but not a time I would choose if I had other options.

We were in Paris in March. It was in the 50s, windy and sunny. I needed a scarf and gloves but it was gorgeous walking weather.
There are plenty of lovely places to stop and have a drink and warm up, so it is never bad.
I have not had a bad weather time in Paris, although I have not been there in the serious summer heat..that I would avoid if possible.

I end up in Paris every year in March because the airfares are some of the very lowest of the year. In Wisconsin, we have WINTER. In Paris in March, it is something that would frequently pass for "Spring" up here, so I'm always happy to enjoy the comparative respite/early release.

HI Flyboy--you win!! We spent a year in grad school in Wisconsin one year and all my subsequent years living somewhere with a temperate climate (when compared to Wisconsin) had made me forget just how wintry winter can be. So I guess judging the weather in Paris in March depends on where you are coming from!!

Purgatory can seem like a good deal compared to hell, too. ;)

I find some cities so beautiful in the winter, the architecture shows up in the grey light and there is something even more romantic about it~
Although the fall when you can smell woodsmoke in the air is nice too~

Oh, I wouldn't easily give up the 4-season climate here and there are wonderful aspects to winter, too. But it certainly DOES make it easy to enjoy much of Europe during months when people who are conditioned to warmer climates don't find the conditions nearly as attractive as I can. (In fact, I already have tix for the end of February in Paris, so I guess that tells the OP how I feel about it better than any other opinion I might express!)

The one time I was in Paris at the end of February, it was in the 70s and we sat at outdoor cafés in our shirtsleeves.
That said, I'm almost always in Paris in March and I've seen everything from snowsqualls to very warm weather. On average, though, it's fairly rainy, a bit blustery, and temperatures in the mid- to high 50s F.
