Paris in October
 

My wife and I are thinking of going to Paris for 7 days in mid October. Has anyone been there at this time of the year? What is the weather like in October?

Yes, I went last October-mid-month as well. Paris weather is usually unpredictible year-round. We actually had warm, sunny weather the first two days in Paris and we left for two days to visit Strasbourg and Bern. When we returned the weather had turned cold, drizzly, and windy.
Therefore, you cannot really know how the weather will be in Paris. The best thing is to check the weather reports for the week you're visiting to have an idea. And bring layers including a weatherproof jacket.
No matter what the weather, however, you're sure to enjoy your visit!!

We've been to Paris in the second week of November (and also the second week of February, we like off season) and found the weather to be, as francophile says, unpredictable. My wife and I both have unlined waterproof jackets (hers is full length GoreTex) under which we wear fleece if necessary.

Don't know what prices will be like this year but waiting until October 15 usually brings lower airfares and hotels.

Francophile is absolutely right. Airfares will go down beginning October 15th. This is the beginning of the shoulder season.

I have been to paris now 3 times. All three times were in October and November. I found the weather to be absolutely wonderful! What I call fall perfect, days in the 60's, then cooler nights but not cold. I have not once needed a heavy coat. Of course there might be some rainy days. In October, it is fall in paris, just like here in the states, and their weather matches weather along the same lines of say Virginia/DC for that time of year. My second trip they even had a kind of indian summer (upper 70's, low 80's weather).

What is nice is you do not have to have air conditioning and that helps on the price of the hotel. Check out the Hotel du Bois near the champs-elysees.

Last October was very rainy. The previous October was quite lovely. There is just no way to tell but no matter WHEN you go to Paris do not go out without an umbrella.

Thank you all for your input. Hope to have some good weather there. We will be leaving on the 6 of Oct. Taking advantage of US Air low fares just posted yesterday. Anyway, Paris is always great no matter what!

We always go either the end of Oct or the early part of November. I love it! The weather has always been good for us, it is more comfortable for walking all day, and sleeping at night.
We usually wear sweaters and jackets/light wool coats. Remember your umbrella!

We were in Paris last October and it was very wet. Many Parisians were wearing long leather coats. I would recommend a warm coat and an umbrella.

If you are going that week in October get your hotel immediately. That is part of fashion weeks.

The one time I was there in October, a few years ago, the weather happened to be gorgeous, with warm days and cool, crisp nights.

A bonus for that time of year is that you might see some nice fall colors. I especially recall the vivid red leaves on vines (vine maples?) on walls in Montmartre, near the Lapin Agile cabaret.

Just trying to do some planning, what are the exact dates of "Fashion Week"? Laud, have you decided where you will be staying?

I did not know anything about Fashion Week. Margie, we will be staying at an apartment owned by a friend of a friend of ours. So, I can not tell you about hotels. When are you planning to go?

Oh no! I am planning to be in Paris for my 50th birthday Oct 8-11. Better review the hotels again real quick -- I thought I had time.
