Paris in November
 

The wife and I are going on a short (4 nights)trip to Paris in mid Nov. Have never been before. Questions: 1) the weather? 2)the best area to stay for easy access to the sights 3)hotels? big or boutique ok and willing to pay up a bit for quality, service, atmosphere 4)can't miss sights w/4 days available 5)restaurants? we LOVE food, good service, good vino, and again atmosphere. All suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

November weather average:
High 50 low 39 - but obviously higher in first part of month and lower in latter. Expect gray and oft wet weather in my experience. Variable weather - could be rather nice but bundle up and have good wet-weather gear.

Weather is a variable. As you research say, here, for example, those of us who have gone in November each have different experiences. Layer...and be prepared for some drizzle.
Where to stay, central? Any of the first arrondizements. I stayed in the 1st last time, at the Hotel Relais du Louvre. 3-star, smallish...out the front door, look left and its the Louvre. I could WALK and stroll everywhere. I adored it. The double rooms are about $200 a night (I think...) Lovely staff, very attentive.
Sights? mmmm...are you museum people? There are one or two in Paris <GRIN>...church people, another couple of somewhat famous churchs. Although, would recommend the windows in St. Chapelle.
I ate a beautiful dinner at Le Fumoir up the road from the Relais du Louvre.

Pick up a copy of the Michelin Green Guide to Paris and start doing research on the city. The Guide is excellent for suggested itineraries that will save you from wandering all over the place and wasting precious time.

What's your hotel budget?

Hotel budget is 100E to 300E. Would pay more though for that "perfect" place. Thanks.

Have been reading your discussion about Paris, I would love to go there for one night, we will be in the UK between Nov 2 and 11, have been researching costs and find that train is SO expensive, also the air travel is expensive when the taxes and charges are added. Does anyone know the cheapest way to get to Paris from London for an overnight stay?

Weather is unpredictable, sun or rain but normally T° would not be too low...
To stay, there is no preference because
sightseeings are in all directions==>
a good adress is the hotel de la Bourdonnais a good *** avenue de la
Bourdonnais, near Eiffel Tower or
both hotel Queen Mary or Cordelia also ***, rue de Greffulhe near la Madeleine.
Not too big units and good services...
For restaurant, depend on what you are looking for : if you look for some
"brasserie" type, la Fermette Marboeuf is good and the decor is wonderful,
la Fontaine de Mars(near Eiffel Tower)
is also a good choice.
For a view and "à la mode atmosphere"
the Georges(restaurant of the Pompidou
center" is the best and not too expensive...
In a more expensive way, try Le Jules
Verne at the 2nd floor of the Eiffel
Tower and Alain Dutournier near la place
Vendome.
2 goods italians : il Cortile rue Cambon and Santa Lucia, rue des canettes, this last near notre dame des Victoires.
Thre are a lot of nice expositions this fall :
-one on the dada movement at the Centre G.Pompidou,
-one of the 1900' austrian art at the Grand Palais,
-one on the parallel between Renoir the painter and Renoir the film maker, his son at the new cinematheque...
For all of those, the best is to reserve in advance(Fnac.com or directly
by the web).
And you have also the habitual museums(Louvre,Marmottan with all the Monet and there is also a good expo in this last...).
Finally if you understand well the french, there is a good theater season :
-Love letters with Ph.Noiret and Anouk Aimée,
-L'emmerdeur with Richard Berry and Patrick Timsit,
-1heure et demi de retard with P.Chesnais and E.Buyle,...
