Paris in November

What is Paris like in the first two weeks in November? Are the outdoor cafe's still open? Should the weather be a major problem?

We were there for a week last November (first week). We had rain a few days and sun a few days. It was on the cool side but not cold. We dressed in layers and were fine. Had a travel umbrella and water proof jackets. Fortunately we both had two pair of shoes so one could dry out while we wore one. It gets dark a lot earlier (7:ish? ). It seemed less crowded than other times we were there, but still a lot of folks around.

Many of the Brasseries and Tabacs were open outside and the hot chocolat really hit the spot. September is still my favourite time, but would go again in November if we had the chance.

We were also in Paris the first week of last November. We only had a little drizzle on a few days - it cleared up quickly. As Rich has noted, a raincoat, umbrella and layers should see you through. We loved being there in November. It was certainly crowded enough, being a big city, and all the cafes were open. A lot of them have heaters attached to the awnings, so you can sit outside comfortably even on a cold day. I don't know what kind of weather would be a problem to you, but it can be cool and rainy, or unexpectedly mild and sunny. We experienced both in the same week. You'll be so busy you won't have time to notice the weather. And if it rains - well, it's still romantic to walk by the Seine under your umbrella. Have a great time!

We were in Paris last November during the Thanksgiving holidays. We had a little light rain, cool days and evenings (blazers, heavy sweaters). I think November is a great time to be in Paris because the crowds are not only smaller but a nicer group of people. There is a large number of people who come to Christmas Shop about that time, and they seem to be a happy, easy group. Everything was open, and several outside cafes had heaters. We loved it; hope you do too.

My feeling is that Paris is worth a trip any time of year. In November the weather might range from fairly warm and windy to downright nasty with rain and (rarely) snow. Don't let it deter you. I'll be there the last week in November and I plan to have warm clothes to get me through any eventuality. Many of the cafés have space heaters so they can still show off their outdoor tables. There are few tourists and the air is clear. No time is a bad time for Paris - go and enjoy!

Weather in November is, as always, unpredictable and changeable. Could be sunny, mild, cold, cloudy, nasty, very cold, windy, rainy. So be prepared with layers to put on or take off, umbrellas, and you'll be fine. Whoever signed my name to that other e-mail should grow up and get a life.

We were also in Paris last November during the week of Thanksgiving in USA. We had only one day that had fairly heavy rain and that was the day before we came home (in fact the heavy rain did not begin until that evening). The weather was cool but pleasant, layering was the way to go. We found everything open and business as usual, just lots smaller crowds. We have been to Paris in spring, summer, winter, and now fall and I have to say that fall is a nice time to be there, as is spring and winter. We like to avoid summer because of the large amounts of people. The off seasons, with less pressure on the shop keepers, make the whole experience more pleasant. By all means go in November. You will love it.
