I have visited Paris in November several times and do not remember it being particularly cold, but I live in New England. I think the weather is pretty unpredictable; it could be warmer or colder than you expect and there could be some beautiful days. I have the photos to prove it. It is unlikely to be so wet and cold that you have to avoid walking. I have never needed boots in Paris, have never noticed that wet shoes were a problem.

Was in Paris in November with friends for a friend's 60th birthday. It rained one afternoon. Was chilly (50s) but not really cold as it would be in the height of winter. We even went up in the ferris wheel and walked around a lot. Have a great time and don't fret.

Like Nikki, I've been to Paris numerous times in November. It's my favorite time to go. It's not that cold. We would wear coats morning and night, but it warmed up nicely in the middle of the day.

Yes, some rain, but it didn't last long. Some of my fondest memories are of cobblestone streets glistening in the soft lamplight after a rain. By mid November, those streets will be covered with the fallen golden leaves of the plane trees....so beautiful.

Don't forget Passage Brady, Little India, and have wonderful lunch or dinner there.

Okay, I pulled the trigger and have 5 nights in early November. Any suggestions for **** hotels (loved the Ambassade in Amsterdam, Montague on the Gardens in London)? Probably Rive Gauche, but could be convinced otherwise... And a restaurant for a special way-over-the-hill birthday?

Hi eastenderusvi, good for you! For your special dinner consider L'Oiseau Blanc on top of the Paris Peninsula. Great food, excellent service and spectacular view. Also, Les Ombres atop Musee Quai Branley. My other favorite special event venues; Le Mandrigore at Hotel Tres Paticuleur (formerly a Hermes mansion, now a very unique botique hotel) and Table d'Eugene in the 18th.

I don't think it was in that movie, but it is indeed fantastic. I've had three great meals there. The most recent was dinner on the National Holiday and the view of the fireworks was perfect.

Hotels - check out the new Hotel National des Arts et Metiers in the 3rd. I'll be meeting a friend there for drinks and dinner next week. It looks really beautiful. For upscale, I also really like Hotel du Lancaster. It's 4 star, and a perfect little jewel box of a hotel on rue de Berri. At the edge of Montmartre (my neighborhood), check out Hotel Terrass. It's reasonably priced and has the most wonderful roof bar. In November it's covered and provided with heaters so I've spent plenty of even raining afternoons there with a glass of wine and my journal. Amazing views! If you want something a little edgier, check out Le Pigalle. It's in the recently gentrified So-Pi neighborhood and is super hip and cool. The rooms are lovely and the staff is too. It's on Av Frochot, where you'll find some of So-Pi's best bars. Pop into LuLu White, across the street, for Tuesday live jazz and absinthe tinted cocktails. The staff there is awesome. There are some very good restaurants in the neighborhood.

Lastly, you might want to take a look at Hotel Particulier. It's really beautiful with something like 5 suites. It has another great bar, and a beautiful garden. The trick is figuring out how to get there. It's a secret!

I just want to thank everyone for their help. I'm still looking in the St-Germaine-des-Pres area for a hotel because it is in the center of the things I want to see. Does anyone have any insight about Hotel du Buci, Villa St-Germaine, or Millesime?

We have stayed at the Millesime 3 times. I has become our go-to hotel in Paris. The staff are lovely, the rooms have been remodeled - they are roomy by American standards and the baths are very nice.
We usually stay in a superior room. I highly recommend.

With great sadness, I had to cancel my birthday trip to Paris. Dealing with the aftermath of two hurricanes has been an exhausting ordeal. Thanks to everyone for their help in planning this. I promise, I will be back with some new scheme and will look forward to your help again. :-(

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your change of plans! We're in central florida and also had some unexpected expenses and loss of work due to hurricanes, but had already booked our Paris trip for 11/8-11/15. But THANK you for starting this thread, it has eased my mind and actually made me MORE excited for our Autumn trip! I hope you can get there again and that your hurricane recovery is going well.

jamikins...Those pictures are incredible! You captured the essence of Paris perfectly...love the rat with the hat! The buildings, food, lovers, weather, reflections in the ornaments...it all makes me want to go running back to Paris.

I use a Nikon D5200, and yes, some were taken on my iPhone! My top tip is to do some research on composition...start with the rule of thirds and your pics will be transformed....even if taken on an iPhone!

Jamikins..I just looked up the rule of thirds...very interesting. I will try these techniques during our safari and trip to Egypt in Feb. I really want to come home with some fantastic photos. Thank you.

I’ve been Paris twice and it rained the whole time, both times. I think on the first day once, we had a peek of sun, afterwards torrential. So I think of Paris as a rainy city (although it typically isn’t) and still think it is the most romantic city on Earth... in spite of the rain, or maybe because of it! Leisurely meals at dreamy cafes watching the rain come down - nothing to complain about. I say go! With proper footwear and a jacket!
