Paris in mid-January
 

We will be taking our first trip to Paris in mid-January or early February. We understand that its not the ideal time, but we have no other options. Generally speaking, can we expect ice and snow? Lots of dull and drearies? We can deal with it, but wonder how prepared we should be with heavy clothes?

Ena, <BR>For the last three years my wife and I have gone to Paris in mid-January, because the fare is cheap and because we love the city. We never saw ice or snow, but I think Paris would be lovely in the snow. No "dull and drearies", not allowed in Paris. We advise a good raincoat (we take Gore-tex) medium weight sweater and turtle necks and water-resistant shoes. Last year, by mid-afternoon we were down to the turtle necks in our walk through Montmartre. Can't speak to February, but we have been in Paris in April, in September, and in December and were always happy to be there. <BR>

Went to Paris for Valentines Day last year. It was fabulous - sunny days about 50 - a little rain. Crammed in the Louve, D'Orsay, Montmarte, Versailles. I do advise getting a Rail Pass and Museum Pass. <BR> <BR>Layer but my fur coat was great and everyone wore them. <BR> <BR>Try Demeure Hotels - we stayed at the Prince Conti - half a block from the Seine for $85 <BR> <BR>Enjoy it - we are going to Nice in March

I once spent the entire month of January in Paris. The first few days of the month were freezing, then it turned much more moderate (a lined raincoat was sufficient) for the remainder of the month. On a side trip to the south of France, it was so warm, you only needed a sweater. <BR>It's hit or miss, so you have to be prepared. Paris is beautiful in any weather. Only downside is during the winter, you have to endure the (dense)cigarette smoke inside the cafes and restaurants since it's too cold to sit outside. <BR>
