Is air conditioning in a room a must in Paris in July?

A "must" is a personal thing. For me, it would be because July can be hot and sticky (and I wouldn't want to take the chance).

It is a good idea. Two summers ago, the heat in Paris set records. A number of people died due to the extreme heat of the summer. You want to enjoy Paris and air conditioning in July will help you do that.

It's a must in May sometimes. It's not too hard to find a good value room in Paris w/ A/C these days. I've never stayed in a (3-star) that hasn't had it.

Makes sense in July, though I wouldn't trade anything else for it. (But not everyone likes it hot.) Other suggestions, if air-conditioned hotels are beyond your budget, go for a fairly high floor, farther from heat reflected from the street -- but not the top floor. And ask about the exposition of the room. You don't want south.

I wouldn't reserve a room w/o it and I live in the tropics where it's hot year round.

I asked exactly the same question last year. Most responses favored A/C.

Although July 2004 was not that hot in comparison to other years, I was still very glad to have A/C, because of the humidity in Paris, which seems extreme. So even if you don't need A/C for heat, you will want it for humidity, and there's a good chance you'll need A/C for heat too.

I personally would prefer air conditioning but just wanted to make sure it was necessary. This way I can filter out any hotels without it

Does anyone know if there are apartments that offer air conditioning? We are debating getting an apartment for 5 nights instead of a hotel room. We will be 2 adults and 2 kids. My husband is a chef and I think shopping at the markets would be a great experience

yes, a/c is a must in july. we've been to europe the last two summers with our kids and some hotels did not have a/c, nor even windows that opened more than a couple of inches and we were miserable. you will be better off with a/c

Yes, it is a must. Yes, some apartmetns do have AC and they usually say so. If it does not explicitly say so, ask before booking. And no matter how much the owner may tell you that it isn't necessary becasue the cross ventilation is good, or they wil supply a fan, don't fall for it!

I agree with Seamus..you need air conditioning as much as anything for the HUMIDITY and that is something that cross ventilation, an ordinary fan, etc., will not dispell.

Conversely, would you even consider renting any accommodation in Winter which wasn't heated? And yes, it IS the same thing..it is called "climate control" and don't allow anyone to talk you out of it.
