Paris in early october

Hotel for 4 nights under $200 night...ideas where to exactly stay to be accessible to museums, good cafes for short tme

There are not many hotels in that price range in the 5th, 6th or 7th for your dates, but you can check out Hôtel Malar** in the 7th.

Museums and cafes are all over the city so most areas of Paris are good. The very central areas are the 4, 5, 6, & 7th.

Do you need a double or single room?

Christina Aug 14th, 2014 11:30 AM

That's 150 euro. You can get a 2* hotel in that price range in most all of the city except maybe the most expensive parts. Some hotels do have single rooms which are a bit cheaper than the smallest double room, so you do need to be clear as to what you want. I usually book a double even though single for the space, but I'm not on a super strict budget and the extra 20 euro or so is worth it to me. For example, I just booked a double room in your time period in Paris at the Hotel Raspail Montparnasse which I like (there are many great cafes right near it and it's near several metro line stops) and it has single rooms for 160 euro but doubles for 190. But it is a 3* hotel, you can of course do cheaper.

The 2* hotel Clement in St Germain has similar prices to the above, but may not be available, you can check. Hotels in the dead center are a bit more expensive and more likely to be booked up already, though. That is a very popular hotel period in Paris, by the way, I had no trouble getting rooms in sevearl hotels I queried but I don't stay in the dead center, I stay in the 14th or 9th often.

Here's a real budget hotel in the Latin Qtr, great location, which is definitely in your range, but you have to write to find availability https://www.hotel-collegedefrance.com/en/

another 3* which does seem to have rooms available in your budget, very good location http://www.hotelbonaparte.fr/

Outer Paris has lovely places for much less than that. One of the biggest mistakes that a lot of people make is wanting to stay near the center.

Hotel Muguet.
Anywhere is accessible by metro or even better, the bus. Kerouac is correct, but he LIVES in Paris. We only get little dribs and drabs and want to be in the more center.
We did stay near Republique last time (11th) and that is certainly "happening".

Here's a link to a hotel that while I have not stayed there I have stayed in an apartment nearby. A friend of mine did stay there however and highly recommended it. It's the Hotel Jeanne d'arc http://hoteljeannedarc.com/?lang=en

I don't think it's a mistake at all for a tourist who doesn't know Paris at all, and has never been there, to want to be in the center, let alone a big one. I've been in cities where I've stayed in outer areas when I didn't know the city, the language, and was a brand new tourist. It wasn't much fun Being a tourist is bad enough in experiencing a place, being a commuting tourist is even worse.

The OP can easily get a hotel in Paris for 150 euro, also, or close to it, depending on how much you want.

Gretchen Aug 14th, 2014 01:24 PM

EXACTLY what Christina said. ;o)

Robert2533 Aug 14th, 2014 02:08 PM

The only hotels in that price range (less than €150) in early October, in the central part of Paris, are 1 and 2-star properties, most of which do not get rave reviews. Most of the hotels within the OP's price range during that time would be found in the 3rd, 9th and 10th arrondissements, in the Gare du Nord, Gare de L'Est area.

You can rent a comfortable apartment for that or less, and perhaps have more choices of location.

nytraveler Aug 15th, 2014 04:36 PM

Ok - perhaps I missed it but where does it say one person.

Are you alone and can get a single room (a smaller room ight be worth it to get closer to the center).

Of is this a couple that needs a double room?

We were just in Paris in early June and stayed at Best Western LA Tour Notre Dame (on a quiet side street next to the Cluny museum and two blocks from Notre Dame) for four nights. It's in the 4th or 5th. I highly recommend it and it was right around $200 on booking.com. Then we went to Normandy. We had one more night in Paris at the end of our trip and stayed at best western rive guache in the 6th. Also wonderful, although a little more expensive. It was in a pretty tourist free area near Luxembourg gardens and St. Sulpice.

3 star hotel du quai de Voltaire in 7th but very near 6th. Incredible views of seine and louvre, price for double or twin is within your budget.
