Paris in December
Are there any major attractions that are closed during December in Paris? Anything closed I should know about? Thanks!

When in Dec?
|
Sunlight. It gets dark very early and does not get light again until well into the morning.

If it is around xmas and NYE then some things will be closed. Here is our trip report from 2009 NYE to give you an idea:

First week of December. Any closings?
|
Why would there be closings the first week of Dec? It will be dark early, but other than that it should be business as usual.

Just curious

Probably only the normal closings. Many museums are closed on Monday. Get a Michelin Green Guide which will tell you when things are closed - it comes in handy when you are deciding when to see what. And it is a great guide to all of the sights of Paris.

Shouldn't be and in fact, you should find it easier to get in at major attractions (fewer tourists, no or shorter lines).

We were in Paris early December last year.
No closures except normal (ie mostly Monday). Coming from Australia, we found the mid-afternoon dusk took some time to get used to. It was cold - ice on puddles until well into the day, and snow on the shaded side of roofs and other garden structures at Versailles. But NO QUEUES!! Easy entry at the Louvre (Friday night open late and free admission for under-25 (I think that was the cut-off), Musee d'Orsay, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe and Versailles. It was wonderful - an occasional coffee or chocolate or mulled wine at a market, then on to the next thing! Christmas Fair and Market on the Champs Elysee (Place de la Concorde end) was terrific. Christmas shopping, admiring the Christmas windows and wallowing in the extravagance of Printemps and Galleries Lafayette (the dome!!) stores on Bvd Hausmann was wonderful. A wonderful time to be in Paris! |
