Paris in December

Hi everybody!
I'm going to Paris with my girlfriend in mid December. Do you have any advices for what to see, wear and do during this season? Is Xmas lights and decorations ON?
We're staying at Hotel De La Porte Dorée, it seems a lovely hotel, and I think the area is OK, even in the subway, wich is at the door of the hotel.

Thanks

You've tagged this as a trip report, but that is OK.

Yes, you will see the XMAS lights. The Champs Elysee is very nice and I would definitely go to the Grand Magasins (Galeries Lafayette,etc..) which have magical window presentations.

I would not pick a hotel based on the Metro being nearby, since in Central Paris the Metro is very close to most locations,

That hotel, to me, is not a good location because it is a bit too far out from the centre for a first time visit

Actually, one advantage of that hotel for December is that you would certainly take the metro back to it whenever you finish what you are doing in the center of the city. People who are in or near the center and think they can walk everywhere will probably freeze to death rather than take the metro for two or three stations.
