Paris in August/restaurants
My husband has business in Paris in late August and I have the chance to accompany him. I have been to Paris on several occasions but never in the infamous month of August. What great restaurants can we expect to find open? We'll be staying at the Hilton Arc de Triomphe, but are willing to go anywhere for a great meal! Any other ins and outs of August that I should expect?
Thanks, Kathy |
There is more discussion about 'August' on this thread, and some recommended restaurants as well:

If you haven't made your selection for a top restaurant for a late August date I would almost say forgettaboutit. But let me make this observation for you about Paris in August. While it is true that many places in Paris take their vacations in August, the town is not shut down and there are plenty of GOOD places to eat. Don't forget, there will be alot less natives of Paris (who are great restaurant goers) who wont be competing. Since you do not have one particular top restaurant in mind I would be willing to state that you will find many there that open but not available at such a late date. No question, your hotel I'm sure will be able to arrange reservations. Call them.Or look at Zagat or any good travel book and call them.

I just went to the web site of one of my favorite Paris restaurants (La Truffiere) and it says that it is closed the whole month of August. Probably all you can do is try to inquire at every restaurant you can, or, just wait until you get there!

Two good sources for research pre-trip are the Red Michelin Guide to Paris and the Patricia Wells Food-Lover''s Guide to Paris. Both have sections with restaurants open during August.
Also, the major hotels' restaurants will be open, such as Les Ambassadeurs and Le Meurice--both known for fine food. |
