Paris in 2024 - avoiding Olympics?

Hello, my family and I want to travel to France and Spain in 2024 but want to avoid being in Paris for the Olympics, which run from July 26-Aug. 11. Does anyone know how far in advance of the Olympic Games do travel costs increase and hotel availability decrease? For example, would we be affected by higher flight costs, etc. if we were to travel to Paris in mid June 2024? How about in early July 2024? Any tips are appreciated.

I should think from as early as March/April there will be support staff and crew coming to Paris to prepare for the games. There is no way to know how this will ultimately affect prices, other than to note that increase demand will likely increase prices and limit availability.

The sad result is that when prices increase, they unlikely will return to pre Olympic levels. 2023 could be the best year to travel to Paris.

One additional problem has been eliminated, though -- rather than ending in Paris, Tour de France will end in Nice in 2024 (21 July).

The 2024 Paralympics take place in Paris from August 28 to September 8. Smaller teams, fewer spectators, but they use the same facilities.

Anselme - good to see your name pop up here. We spent 2 weeks in Paris just before Christmas 2021. Same apt where we met with you.

Not all Olympic venues are in Paris. Note on map (link below) several events in Nantes, Bordeaux, Lyon, St-Etienne, Nice, Marseilles. Avoiding the "Olympic effect" in France in 2024 would require detailed planning and perhaps exclude Paris entirely.

Hi Stu, nice to hear from you! I remember that apartment and our dinner that evening.

I haven't posted very much in the Europe forum these last three years, what with our wings being clipped, but we have bookings to return this year; next month the Netherlands, and then Wales and the Lake District in May.

The surfing competition is even taking place in Tahiti, so you might want to avoid that as well.

Thank you all. Looks like we might be pushing our trip up to this summer.
