Paris...Ile St. Louis restaurants
 

Hi guys! <BR> <BR>I am staying on Ile St. Louis, which I adore, but I find that I've made reservations in restaurants that are, for the most part, not that close to the island. I've come to think that I would like to soak up some of the local atmosphere, (and stay closer to "home"), by dining at one of the Island's restaurants. <BR> <BR>I would love and appreciate any comments about: Le Mondes des Chimieres (sorry for the spelling), L'Auberge de la Reine Blanche and Au Gourmet de L'isle... <BR> <BR>Thanks!

Ate at Auberge de la Reine Blanche on my last night in Paris in April and enjoyed it very much. The atmosphere is cosy, and the food plentiful and good. I had mussels, duck a l'orange, and apple glace with a shot of calvados poured over it - all delicious and far more than I could finish, for about 180 FF (?). The proprietess appreciated my attempted French, and was able to recommend a well-priced red wine to accompany my meal. They are open every day, so a good choice for Sundays, when many restaurants are closed. Reservations recommended, (a day ahead or even earlier the same day is probably okay for a smaller party) as there are only about 10 tables.

<BR>Hi Betsy, <BR> <BR>I know you are mainly looking for dinner spots, but for a good lunch try the onion soup at La Flor en L'Ile. It's on the Ile St. Louis with a great view of the back of Notre Dame. Also Pomme Cannelle. It's on the street that becomes the Pont Marie. It's not much on decor, but fabulous quiches - huge portions, and Berthillion ice cream for dessert.

I would highly recommend a stroll across Pont Louis Philippe to Chez Julien. The food and atmosphere are magnificent. Tables set outdoors in the nice weather, but inside is really nice. The 160F three-course prix fixe menu is a steal and the a la carte offerings are reasonable and amazing. AND, not to be missed is Flore en l'Isle for the hot chocolate - even if it's hot and sunny outside.

Thanks, both of you. I probably won't be around the area for lunch except for the day I arrive, so perhaps I will go to Flore en L'isle for lunch on that day. It's probably a good idea to eat light on the day I arrive in Paris, and a light lunch of onion soup would probably hit the spot, since I adore onion soup. I think I ate breakfast there one day last year, and the view was spectacular. <BR> <BR>Thanks for the tip about Chez Julien, Donna. Hi <BR>And I thought Chez Julien was MY little secret! <BR>It's my favorite Paris restaurant in the moderate price range, and it made a cameo appearance in the film "The Accidental Tourist". Great food, service, prices, and atmosphere.

I know it's a little strange to eat Italian food when you're in Paris, but La Castafiore on Ile St. Louis is a very nice, very small restaurant with great food - I highly recommend it, but you've absolutely got to have reservations, because it only seats about 24 and is always packed.
