Paris Hotels - which would you choose?
I have booked rooms as two different hotels in Paris...but need help in the final decision. We will be in Paris for 5 days and near the end of a 3-week vacation:
1. Hotel de Turenne - (on Ave de Tourville -Rue Cler neighborhood). I think I read that this hotel was renovated in 2002?
2. Hotel du Danube - on Rue Jacob in St Germain. However, can only afford the 'standard' room.
Which would you choose?

If you do a search here for the Du Danube you'll get lots of feedback, including mine after staying there in October.
In a nutshell, great location, nice staff, okay room (a bit dark--and that was a "superior" room).
Or do a search for "Paris Hotels" and you'll find lots of excellent choices.
Have a great trip!

I'm not personally familiar with either, but a travel board acquaintance, who we met for breakfast several days, declared the Turenne "awful" (not just the room, but the service and staff as well) and was delighted that we took her for a look-see of our room in and the Hotel Muguet, right around the corner.

A. NONE OF THE ABOVE
Send me an emal address (send to [email protected]) and I will send you a picture from the MOST non thinkable hotel in Paris. Will tell you where it is and what its benefits are! Unbelievable BUT true!

We stayed in a corner, twin room at Hotel de Turenne in 2002. I found it to be an affordable, convenient choice. I don't know what kind of 'service' expectations people have for 2-star hotels - our room was cleaned daily, the server brought our breakfast to the table promptly, and the desk clerk always handed over the key. What else is needed?... At any rate, the hotel, while 'renovated' is nothing fancy, still has some 'wear and tear' but it was fine for us.
Our room had two windows opening out at the corner over ave Tourville, an armoire, a small desk, TV and the bath had 2 sinks. A nick in the furniture doesn't bother me for 80E or so.
There is a laundromat, bank, ATM, grocer on same street or block, and Brasserie Ecole Militaire was fine for casual eating. Rue Cler just around the corner, and quite a few recommended restaurants in the area; Metro Ecole Militaire about 1-2 blocks away.
There isn't much night life in this area, but it was therefore reasonably quiet at night.
I can't say what the other rooms at Turenne looked like, although I got a glimpse of a double during the cleaning area, and it seemed to be ok.
Having said all that, most posters here seem to prefer the 6th, as it is more 'central', and I think Danube is in a higher price range, although I guess that doesn't necessarily guarantee better quality.
