Paris Hotels under $100
 

Hi,
It has been mentioned many times in this forum that you can find a great hotel in the latin quarter for under $100 per night. Now that I am looking I can't find anything in that area for under 100. Can anyone tell me where I should be looking.

With the euro to dollar ratio getting higher, that $100 mark is getting more difficult.

a search on these here or at tripadvisor.com should get you good guest comments

the de Lys is on rue Serpente, there's more than one hotel with that name

I think most of those posts were back when the euro and dollar were more or less equal. It is still fairly easy to find a hotel for under 100 euro, but keeping it under $100 means more like under 70 euro, and that's getting harder all the time.

But in the search function, type in inexpensive Paris hotels and click France. You will find many threads on this issue.

Hotel du Dragon, rue Dragon 6th

Hotel Familia on Rue des Ecoles. The single rooms (you didnt specify) were about 85 or so,,,but really very small...the double rooms were about 100 or 105 when i went in October and quite comfortable. ask for a room with a view to the street.

I've stayed at Hotel de Lille on r. Pelican. It's very central but very basic. Probably about 60 Euros a night? I got a private bath.

Also, Time Out Paris has some budget recommendations.

Try searching www.routard.com. There are decent-looking hotels listed in the 5th there for as little as 40 euros. I've been using the hard copy book for years with considerable success.

Hi... you posted earlier about the Intercontinental and also made a comment that along the lines that 'price doesn't matter'..'as long as it isn't $500'... or something similar...
What has changed since those posts? Just worried about the Dollar/Euro ratio?
Also, it really matters if you're looking for a single or a double before a lot of people start helping - please inform us... thanks.

You can put a price range and location into the search criteria on most of those.

I don't think the &gt;$100USD and IN the Latin Quarter is so easy these days, possible but not like even a few years ago. Recent Fodors threads about acceptable and cheap hotels in were in more outer areas from the center of the city.

Also the most basic budget hotels may not have websites so you'd need to be working with a guidebook then telephone &amp;/or fax.

My son is staying in the Marais in March at the Hotel du Marais. There are good and bad reviews on it, he is getting a very cheap rate, less than $100-
I have no idea how 'great' that hotel is for the money, as we are also looking and the Latin Quarter is no bargain any more.

Scarlett, please ask you son for a review of the Hotel du Marais to post here (and tripadvisor) I enjoy staying in the Marais and I am always on the lookout for budget accomodations as we like to stay for at least 6 days (that can add up, and I would hate to cut into my wine and pastry budget :) )

I saw that awful review on tripadvisor and got worried for him, but he will be arriving from 10 weeks in India, he might not notice much at all in the way of hotel amenities!
We will be there too at that time, but staying in either the 1st or the Left Bank/Latin quarter or 7th..so many choices make it harder, not easier!

The du Lys is 110 euro for a double, which is now way over $100.

A few months ago Conde Nast Traveler highlighted the Hotel Port-Royal (in the 5th, I believe? or edge of 6th?)which at that time was $100. It sounded like good value for the $$.

We stayed at Hotel Saint Jacques(in the 5th) for 85E which is more than $100 - but since it includes the taxes, it isn't too much more. Our room was on the top floor and was small, but nicely furnished. There is an elevator, but you have to walk up one flight of stairs to the top floor.

I've stayed at the Hotel Monge. The room was small but spotless. The location is excellent and the breakfast was very good. I don't know what the price is now but I'm sure they have a website.

Hi all, and thanks so much for all of your replies. Travelnut, you asked about earlier post where I asked about the intercontinental and said that money wasn't a big deal. But now I am asking about hotels that are under $100. When I made that first post that was in the very beginning of my planning, and things have changed somewhat since then. In the beginning I was only going for a week, but after I realized I could get a decent hotel for less then $100 I extended my vacation to 2 weeks. So now money is more of an issue then it was before. I need to budget better to make my vacation funds stretch over two weeks instead of one.

For those of you that asked, I need a double room. One full bed or two twin beds will work.

Not a great hotel, but a decent one in a nice location at a good price: the Montebello, in the 7th. This is a recent post from the bonjourparis.com web site.

Hi. I've often recommended http://www.france.com and use their search engine. We've stayed at Hotel de la Sorbonne in the Latin Quarter. It is 60 euros a night double, clean, elevator, staff speaks English, private bathroom, showers, etc. It has small rooms, but the location across from the Sorbonne University is terrific.

I highly recommend it and also the france.com web site. We always reserve our Paris hotel there and have never had problems.

55 Euro for a single room, 63-73 for a double, run by very nice people. Great location in a quiet residential neighbourhood in the 13th right on the edge of the 5th, 5 minutes walk from the rue Mouffetard market, 1 minute walk to a metro station, lots of restaurants and cafes nearby, among them au Petit Marguery, highly recommended on this forum.
I stayed there for almost 2 weeks in September and if felt like home.

A double at Hotel de la Sorbonne is anywhere from 50-100&euro; on their website, guess it depends on the season and/or room size?

Here is another budget option in the 5th - Hotel Marignan (rue Sommerard).

It has a wide range of prices depending on the season and whether you want 'ensuite' or not. It gets good remarks on Tripadvisor.
Other wise the Port Royal and the Residence les Gobelins are the closest thing under $100 near the Latin Quarter that sound decent.

I'd rather spend TWO weeks than one week, also - for most visits, you won't spend that much time in your room anyway.

We just returned home a few days ago from a WONDERFUL 8 day stay in Paris.
Our hotel was the Best Western Le Nouvel Orleans in the 14th. We paid $85.00 a night for a triple, including all taxes, I booked on Expedia. The hotel was great for that price. The bathroom was huge, the rooms were clean and fresh. There is a metro stop right across the street and the RER station is a 3 minute walk.

I think that many of the suggestions are new, so it's good to have an update.

Hotel St Andre des Arts on the street of the same name in the 6th. It's a one star so no TV or lift but it's really quite nice and the location is wonderful and breakfast is included. It's only bread and coffee (or tea, etc) but it's one of the few inexpensive hotels in Paris that includes breakfast. I also stay in Hotel St Jacques and Hotel Minerve, both on rue des Ecoles in the 5th, they are both under &euro;100 but now with the shitty exchange rate they'd be over $100.

I have two recommendations, one of which is not a hotel.

I try to go to Paris once a year, except for this year as the Euro is too strong for me right now.

My favorite part of Paris is the Rue Cler area in the 7th. It is safe, has reasonably priced restaurants, and hotels. One of Rick Steves favorites is this one:

I stayed there several years ago with my children and rented two rooms and it was lovely. The owners are very cordial and it was clean. It's not the Ritz, but for 100E's for a triple, it's hard to beat, much less find a triple in Paris. Doubles are 76E's, I think.

It was my best experience ever and I've yet to spend over $550 for 7 nights. The last apartment was in the Latin Quarter, it had a loft bed and a &quot;futon&quot; type bed that was about the size of a double. You can easily sleep four in the apartment and it was &quot;huge&quot; by Paris standards. The bathroom was palacial, by Paris standards.

I rent from one particular landlord each time and he is FANTASTIC! I've sent many friends and family members to his apartments and they love them too.

I notice his prices are a little higher now, but you would not be sorry for the extra cost for the extra room and location if you like the Latin Quarter.
The Rue Cler apartment is too small for more than 2 people.

I just can advice you about an hotel in Saint Germain des Pr&eacute;s, which is not far from the Latin Quarter...This hotel is called Hotel Rive Gauche (http://www.hotelrivegauche.com)...This hotel is less than 100$ and it is a very clean 2 star hotel..The staff is very friendly and helpful...Rooms are of good size...! have a good trip in Paris!

Did you click on the hotel button at the top of this screen? You can search hotels and read guest reviews. That's how I found mine. I stayed at Hotel Residence les Gobelins this April, which Keren also mentioned. If you look up my review I included rates, and preferred room numbers from my stay. A double room on the (quiet) courtyard with a bathtub was 70 euros in April. Breakfast is 6eu. You can book online via email. On budget, same as you, my final plans became 2 weeks instead of 1 week. Hi all, and thanks for your help. There were some great recommendations at 100 euros per night, which at the current exchange rate of 1.36 converts to $136. I am not going until March, and from what I've read in the business pages of our local newspaper the exchange rate is expected to go higher. By March it could be as high as 1.50. So if that happens it would cost me $150 for a room that is 100 euros.
So what I did was book the hotel through a sight that was in U.S. $'s and I pay for it now before I go. I got a rate of $120 per night at the Le Meridien Montparnasse. I did a search on that hotel at this sight, and didn't get much information. Has anyone stayed there recently? Can anyone tell me anything about it?

at tripadvisor.com there are mixed reviews, but more positive than negative

The Port Royal is a 1* hotel on the edge of the 5th and 13th arrondisements. I like the location a lot, although a first-timer may find it too far away from the action. That hotel has been mentioned in lots of articles and guidebooks as a good hotel for that star level, so I'd rather book it than some others.

I do think many of the comments were referring to a time period when then dollar was worth a lot more, and while you may have a great time, I think you may be a little disappointed in the hotel and room if you are downgrading from the Intercontinental/money is not object mode because you heard there are great hotels for less than US$100 in Paris.

Right now $100 US will barely bring you &euro;72 at the wholesale bankrate of exchange.

I suggest you investigate The hotel de TURENNE. Right now you can get a room with a double bed for about &euro;75
Hotel Royal Cardinal is similarly priced in the Latin Quarter.

Or perhaps the Hotel de Hollande or
L'HOTEL SUNNY MOUFFETARD

But for under $90 a night you have slim pickings with the dollar dragging bottom.

Also most Paris hotels do NOT include breakfast in the rate. A few do, but most don't.

The Aiglon, which is a good 3 star on the north edge of the 14th Arr is running a special for 100&euro; nightly on standard rooms, but that figures out to about $137 these days.

Those rooms will go up in before long, probably mid March.

So it all depends on when you want to go and how much privation you are willing to tolerate.

There are some real dumps that can be had for less. I know, in my student days I stayed in rooms with no bath because I was feeding low on the scale.

Search on &quot;Willtravel&quot; s posts - she stayed at the Meridian Montparnasse recently, thru Priceline...

A hotel I regularly stay at in Paris, the H&ocirc;tel de France, at 102 boulevard de la Tour Maubourg in the 7me, is, I believe, still offering doubles with bath for 72&euro; a night, which is just about $100. It's a nice hotel in a nice neighborhood with friendly staff. Breakfast, which I don't usually have at the hotel, is 6&euro; per person. The website is www.hoteldefrance.com

Re: the interest above in <b>le Meridian Montparnasse</b> - there is a new post on Tripadvisor dated 12/31 that you can read.

There was some discussion about this hotel here and at the bonjourparis.com site a few months ago. Perhaps a search will bring the info up. From what I remember, it's a good hotel in a good location, and for your price you're getting a very good deal.
