Paris hotels--St. Germain
 

I am a woman in my 50's who will be traveling to Paris in May. I am looking for hotel suggestions in the St.Germain des Pres area in the 150-200 Euro range. I'm having a hard time choosing among the many hotels in the area. Please help. Thanks.

My favorite in that price range remains LeRegent on Dauphine. The standard rooms are quite small, but I'm used to the very nice and comfortable "superior" rooms. I'm not sure if the superior would put you over your budget, but I think not. On the other hand, if you are alone the small room might be fine -- just not as luxurious or comfortable or as bright.

We have stayed at the Hotel St. Jacques and will do so again in July. It is a small but lovely hotel located at 35 Rue des Ecoles. The first trip we had a triple which was more than roomy enough for the three of us. I was solo on my second trip and the room was quite nice. On our next trip we are paying 108 euros for a double room with shower and WC. Breakfast is 8 euros extra. I love the location of this hotel as many of the major sites are within walking distance. I found a website for a little restauraunt down the street at 17 Rue des Ecoles called "Breakfast in America". BabsB- quantity coffee is difficult to find in Paris. But quality coffee is much easier.

You can get a single room at that price, I think (haven't checked prices recently) at the D'Aubusson, just down the street from the Regent. Both have the same great location. I've always read good things about the Regent, it's the Aubusson I know personally.

If their prices are too high, in January I stayed at the Delavigne, on rue Casimir Delavigne. Metro is Odeon. You could afford to get one of their larger twin rooms--some of their standard rooms are very tiny. But the hotel is pretty, even elegant, wonderful service, nice staff, great breakfast, excellent location. If you are going in summer, they don't have a/c.

Our very favorite is the du Danube..right on rue Jacob and so convenient for most everything you would want . We walk all over from there. The standard rooms are small for 2 but fine for one!

I don't stay in St-Germain so will leave suggestions to others (I know in addition to some of the suggestions above, some people like the Artus and Madison, as perhaps the HOtel de l'Odeon).

FYI the St Jacques suggested is not in St-Germain, though.

The Danube just received a very good review on the bonjourparis.com web site. Evidently Severin Ferrand, who runs the hotel, has acclaim far and wide for helpfulness and niceness. The Danube has no a/c, but probably in May that wouldn't be a problem.

Our favorite is the Hotel des Saintes-Peres. You can make a reservation at www.esprit-de-france.com. The hotel is small, charming, welcoming and beautifully located about a half block south of Blvd. St. Germaine on the Rue des Ste-Peres. The rooms are more spacious than many 3* and the bathrooms are modern and sparkling. You can get rooms for 150 Euros and up.

Hello, I just wanted to add that I checked at Hotel Bonaparte for a single recently and it is 94 euros. I decided to get an apartment on rue Dauphine instead but wanted to let you and others interested know the single price.

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions. Is anyone familiar with the Hotel de Buci or the Buci Latin?

My husband and I stayed at Hotel St. Germain in the 6th, 88 Rue de Bac in 2002 and loved it. Rue de Bac is a wonderful street with everything on that block that you could need.

The Buci Latin is one I was referring to as the Artus -- I believe it changed its name several years ago.

Another option that I think many people like is the Left Bank Saint-Germain hotel. I know you can get it for that rate and it is a nice 3* hotel in a prime location.

I've looked at the Hotel de Buci - it's fantastic but I'm not sure it's in your price range. Are they running a special??

The Hotel de Buci had an internet rate of 211 Euros for a single. It's a bit more than I wanted to spend, but will do so if it's worth it??????

Having stayed at both LeRegent and HotelLeft Bank, I'd rate LeRegent much higher for quality of rooms for the price.
Hotel de Buci is indeed lovely, but many of their rooms take "tiny" to a whole new level. Do you know what kind of room is on special?

On another thread someone mentioned that LeRegent is offering a current 40% discount because they are renovating the elevator and it will be out of service. I'm not sure how long that lasts or when it is, but if you don't mind a few stairs, that is a GREAT deal.

My wife and I have stayed in two that may be very appropriate for your stay:
