After reading so many good things about the Agora Saint Germain Hotel, we booked for early November. I am now trying to contact the hotel by email, but I get no response after 5 attempts. At this point, I am getting a little nervous. Has anyone stayed at this hotel recently?

1) It is a weekend and often there are "substitute" people , for lack of a better term, manning the reception and they don't handle correspondence (maybe not even check the email).

2) many French hotels still respond better to faxes than emails. If you haven't heard from the hotel by Monday afternoon, I would send them a fax, if it's something urgent.

Since we have not been able to reach Agora Saint Germain by email, we are going to place a telephone call. How do we call from the US to Paris?

To call to Paris from the US, this is the number you have to call : 00331 46 34 13 00 (don't change anything and it should work!) For the shuttle, have a look on this website, you'll get the exact price : http://www.parishuttle.com/

Hope it helps!

The number above is wrong for calling from the US. You have to dial "011" first before the country code of "33". SO it would be 011-33-1-46341300.

I'm so thrilled that you guys are still traveling. That means I have another 45 years to look forward to, God and my health willing.

I think you two are doing a wonderful job at putting together your trip. You will love the Agora. If you can't reach them, do you have a friend or relative who can assist you with the call?

Arrange and take a shuttle. It is much more relaxing and you'll have someone to assist with your bags. Pack light!

How to dress and not look like a tourist? In November, think black, gray and one accent color. Ideal accent colors this season? Red, creme and rust or "fall" colors. Chicos has some great travel clothes that are easy to pack and do not wrinkle. Pack light if at all possible.

Every person we saw last winter wore a scarf on the street. Coats were in blacks and grays. Your black cashmere coat would be perfect. Black leather shoes are an absolute must. No athletic shoes. Your handbag must have a top zipper or zip and a flap. Your hubby needs a money belt. If you have a cross-body strap, that's ideal. I bought my favorite one while in Paris last winter.

Ensure that you have all medications in their original containers and have a copy of the prescription.

Ignore any snarky comments on this website. They're just jealous.

Enjoy Paris - It's lovely.

We've used paris shuttle several times as Valerie (above) recommends and were pleased with the service. Last time we used it, I believe it was 18 euros each and well worth the money IMO.

Thanks for all the wonderful advice. We intend to pack very light to avoid heavy suitcases. On a practical note, are laundromats common in Paris? I hope so.

We have taken the on-off bus several times in Paris. It is a pleasant way to see major sights without endless walking. On very cold January we made three consecutive circuits before we got off. We never had a problem seeing or hearing. Of course the river boats are also very good.
