Paris Hotels
 

Before our last trip to Paris 4 years ago, we narrowed our hotel choices down to 2 after seeking advice from this forum and checking tripadvisor. We were looking at moderate priced hotels, and the 2 shortlisted were Hotel Familia and Hotel Jeanne d'Arc. In the end we chose Familia because it was nearer the part of Paris we wanted to be in.

However, on our next trip (later this year) we want to base ourselves in the Marais, so Hotel Jeanne d'Arc seems the more logical choice this time. But maybe things have changed in 4 years. Would people on this forum still rate Jeanne d'Arc as one of the better moderate-priced hotel choices in the Marais?

(As a guide to our expectations, we were happy with the Familia. The rooms were small but we had our own bathroom and a balcony overlooking the street; breakfasts (included in the tariff) were minimal, but the service was friendly and helpful. We are not people who hang around our hotel, preferring instead to be out doing things).

Two friends stayed there last year for a few nights. The room was small but they found it adequate and the location is fabulous.

Yes, a friend of mine stays there and likes it.
A popular poster here, avalon, stays at the Familla, it looks more attractive than the jeanne d'arc

Tried to book in to Hotel Jeanne d'Arc and it looks like it may be fully booked for the dates I want. (At least I think that's what the message said - it was in French)! I now have to find an alternative, but probably best to start a new thread for that. Thanks for responses to this one.

Twoflower, if you used their online booking page disregard what it says and contact the hotel by email. I found once that while the online page said they were full they did, in fact, have a room.

We love the jeanne d'Arc. Did you notice the tiny British flag on the top right?

Well I prefer to rent apartment to hotels. However would try to give a try to any of above stated for once.

I don't know your budget but I have looked at Hotel Caron du Beaumarchais for when we don't want to rent our apt. I love the location close to many bus lines and 2 metros and lots of shops, services, and cafes. Walking distance to the Seine and several museums

Ok hotel not "grand" by any means pretty cheap tiny baths though.Many other good choices with honest recent reviews above.www.hotel-collegedefrance.com my fav with a similar pricepoint.

Yes I saw British flag, but like many language-choice hotel websites, the English version is only a layer deep. I was in that version, but when it came back with a "not available on these dates" message it had reverted to French!

Grand Hotel Jeanne d'Arc (in the Latin Qtr) is different from Hotel Jeanne d'Arc (in the Marais). It too is fully booked for our dates. But thanks anyway for the thought.

An apartment would be nice but we're only in Paris 4 nights.

We are now tossing up between Le Relais du Marais, rue de Turbigo (3rd arrondisement), and Hotel des Trois Poussins, rue Clauzel (9th arrondisement). Any thoughts on these - especially on their localities? Thanks...

Hotel Sevigne in the Marais is updating right now, site says it will be open again in April. You might have a look at it later on. Of course, higher prices typically follow a 'refresh'...
