Paris Hotels 6th arr.
We are planning a trip to Paris in April. We are considering the L'Abbaye vs. Hotel des Grands Peres. Any suggestions? We have friends staying at the Citadines st. Germains. How far are these 2 hotels? Is there anything closer we should consider? Thanks.

Hi... researching Paris hotels is my hobby :), but I have never heard of the Hotel des Grands Peres. Maybe you mean the Hotel des Saint-Peres? or maybe the Grand Hotel des Balcons?
Other than that, most hotels in the 6th are considered very central and the area may be the most popular to stay, espec. for those who frequent this forum. |
I overlooked your actual question...
Closer options would be: Hotel Saint Paul - 43 rue Monsieur le Prince http://www.h-saintpaul.com/ Hotel Left Bank St Germain - 9 rue de l'Ancienne Comedie http://www.leftbankstgermain.com/ Hotel le Regent - 61 rue Dauphine http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75006regent.htm The Citadines St Germain is on the Quai St Augustine, so a closer hotel would be one that is between the Quai and blvd St Germain (centered around metro stops Mabillon or Odéon). |
The Citadines St. Germain is at Quai des Grands Augustins, by the Seine river, between Rue Dauphine and Rue Git Le Coeur.
The closer hotels you can get ( about 150 yards distant) are Hotel Dauphine, 3 stars, or D'Aubusson, 4 stars, at Rue Dauphine, or Hotel Relais du Vieux Paris, 3 stars, at Rue Git Le Coeur... Also, the Hotel Prince de Conti, at Rue Guinegaud, or the nice, and expensive Relais Christine, at Rue Christine, are much closer than both, the Saint Peres or Hotel de l'Abbaye. I hope it helps. |
Thank you. I did mean the Saint-Peres. Are the hotels you mentioned as nice as the L'Abbaye and the Saint-Peres? I only know about the d"aubosson and Relais Christine.

Of the hotels I mentioned, I've stayed only at D'Aubusson and Hotel Dauphine. D'Aubusson is lovely, with standard rooms larger than most hotel rooms in Paris. Hotel Dauphine is as good as any small 3 stars hotel in the left Bank, but doesn't get close to D'Aubusson. However, it's much cheaper.
I've passed by Le Regent. The lobby is nice, and it has been recommended by many on this board. Standard rooms, however, are said to be quite small. De l'Abbaye, I could never confirm a room there, although I've tried nearly all times I was in Paris. It's said to be an exceptional 3 stars, very, very nice. The Saint Peres also gets rave reviews on this board. There;s also another hotel at Rue Git Le Coeur, which is said to be really nice, although apparently doesn't have all the amenities I'd expect from a 4 stars. It's Hotel Villa D'Estrees. You can check the reviews by doing a search on here or on TripAdvisor.com. |
If you don't like the price at the D'Aubusson, check out their other hotel, Millesime on Rue Jacob...a 6-7 minute walk to your friends's hotel. Their deluxe rooms are large and the staff most welcoming. The breakfast is very good , but pricy. we prefer to walk about 5 minutes and have breakfast at Paul.

I've stayed at both the Hotel Left Bank St. Germaine and Hotel Dauphine. Our room at Hotel Dauphine was VERY small but it was very cute. We could have had a larger room that was much plainer and didn't have much light. We were given a triple room at the Hotel Left Bank which was huge but faced the inner courtyard so was pretty dark. Hotel Left Bank included breakfast and the Oden metro stop is just steps away.

If we did stay at the Saint-Peres or the L'Abbaye, does anyone know how far away it would be (how long a walk) for the Citadines St. Germains? Thanks for all your responses.
|
I think you're looking at about 15 minutes for either one. The walk to/from the L'Abbaye would be more interesting, IMO.
|
Thanks. That's not so bad.
|
It's about 1 kilometer and "18" minutes. Use www.mappy.com and "pedestrian" to map the route.
|
Thanks. What a great web site. I never knew abouy it.

My husband and I stayed at Le Regent last summer, and it was lovely. The staff was wonderful, and the location can't be beat. The standard rooms were small but well-appointed, and we found the space to be adequate for our 6-night stay.
