Paris Hotels
hi,
I am planning a trip to Paris and I am trying to decide on a hotel. I am considering the Splendid hotel and Acacias Saint Germain. Does anyone have any information as to whether these are good choices such as good quality, good location, safe neighborhood, close to clubs and restaurants, etc.? |
Hi alex,
Have you got the addresses? ((I)) |
and also, have you searched on them by name in the little search box above?
The St Germain has definitely been mentioned here before. And, www.tripadvisor.com is a great source of customer reviews of hotels. |
Thanks elaine for your suggestion. They were helpful.
Ira, I don't have the specific addresses at this time, but I know the Splendid is supposed to be near the Eiffel Tower and Acacias between the Latin Quarter and St Germain de Pres. |
I looked up the hotels on tripadvisor
Splendid is near metro Ecole Militaire, reviews are okay, a bit mixed Acacias is on rue de Renne in the 6th. Based on location and on the reviews, I'd pick that one. I have a long file on Paris; if you'd like to see it and your inbox can accept large attachments, email me at [email protected] |
hi elaine,
Thank you for your help. I will not need the attachment. I have some information that I am looking at on Paris. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. Hopefully, I can reciprocate with some travel info in the future. |
I haven't read tripadvisor, but always sort of thought the Splendid had consistently better reviews or recommendations than the Acacias. I know Sandra Gustafson liked the Splendid, but I haven't seen her newest book. I wanted to stay there a couple years ago when I was interested in that area, but they were a little out of my price range.
Just looked at tripadvisor, there are at least two or more hotels by each name, but yes, the reviews for both seem mixed. I suspect they may not be that different in that regard. Neither is what I'd say is in a club-heavy area, depending what you mean by that. Definitely not the Splendid -- the Acacias is clos to Montparnasse where there are a couple. It's really only a few blocks up to bd Montparnasse and there is a jazz club up there and another that is notorious for various activities, not always good (used to be club Enfer but I think a different name now--this is pretty young). Of course you can get to anywhere on the metro easily. Both are close to restaurants and safe. Hard to say -- if you really want to be near the action more, I guess the Acacias, but don't expect a great hotel from what I've heard. |
You might consider staying on the Right Bank for clubbing...I'm no night owl but I've read the 'happenin' places are in areas around Bastille, rue Oberkampf, etc...You can read hotel reviews at Tripadvisor.com
