Paris Hotels

We have 2 reservations for an upcoming trip - Hotel St. Jacques in Latin Quarter and the Hotel d'Aubusson in Germaine St. Pres. Unfortunately, both of them have received recent slams in the Rants & Raves section. Any suggestions in the same genral areas? This will be our anniversary and I really want it to be nice. Budget is $300 per night, max. Thanks

I'd stay in either hotel in a NY minute if I could. I've peaked into d'Aubusson and was elightfully "awed"...
and I thought I read a couple of recent trip reports that mentioned both favorably...
one of those things that just makes you go..."mmmmmmmmmmmm...."

Hi
I also am in the d'Aubusson fan club, and although I haven't been there for 2-3 years it was in pristine, beautiful condition when I was last there. Since the fabulous location hasn't changed, the only variables are either surly staff (which I absolutely did not experience) or having fallen into dirt or direpair which would surprise and dismay me. My room (a "superior") was spacious, I have read that rooms vary in size.

I stayed in the Hotel St. Jacques on rue des Ecoles last April after reading good reviews on this forum. I had a top floor room - I thought it had many more amenities than other two-star hotels at which I ordinarily stay. I would certainly return there. I don't know the price now but I paid about 70 Euro last year so with your budget you could go a bit more upscale I would think if you want.

I am suggesting that you look at the Hotel Luxembourg Parc which is across the street from Luxembourg gardens on rue de Vaugirard. Beautifully decorated rooms and very pleasant staff, too. Look at reviews on Tripadvisor.com Stayed there last fall and will return in October. Doubles run about €225.

I suggest you look at those "slams" VERY carefully before doing anything rash....are they in the least objective? Do they give concrete examples? Or is it the usual, "The staff was rude" or "The service was bad"
And how do you square the slams with those here who say the place is great?
Nobody likes everything, not even you!

The Luxembourg Parc seems to have become a difficult reservation. I tried for September several months ago, with no luck. The hotel looks VERY nice.

Luxembourg Parc was featured a couple of years ago in Travel & Leisure; I think it was about small hotels under $200.00. The reviewer said it's like a "mini Crillon". I guess because according to their website the pictures show nice furnishings in the style of Louis XVI, Napoleon III, etc. Bathrooms are large and marble and have shower curtains it looks like too!

The two hotels are very different. I think the Aubusson is a high end three star and the St. Jacques a two star and there is a significant difference in price. Both are generally highly thought of. If you want a luxe hotel with more amenities, choose the d'Aubusson. If you want a very nice and more economic choice, choose the St. Jacques.

I agree - two different types. The d'Aubusson has a GREAT location as well as being very upscale. I have been in the Luxumborg Parc mentioned earlier--it is lovely and right across from the park. But for location, you can't d'Aubusson.
