Paris Hotels @ 150 Euros
 

Need some Paris hotel recommendations that are at 150 Euros (Spring time rates) which include daily breakfast and must have amodern, well lit bathroom with shower- no quirky plumbing.
Ideally near a metro stop and in an area that has plenty of cafes, and some sights within walking distance. I don't expect 5 stars here but neither do we want Motel 6 ambiance.

Regular-poster Ira's favorite is the Hotel Bonaparte, which is near the St-Germain métro station--and many other good things.

You don't say which arrondisment you're interested in so I'll just give you some of my impressions. They all have good restaurant choices close by.

Just stayed at Hotel Muguet. The room was recently renovated with a nice big bathroom. No tub, just a stand-up shower. It was 125 euro and I think breakfast was about 9 euro (I don't remember exactly). It is a couple blocks from Latour-Malbourg metro stop in the 7th.

I also like Grand Hotel des Balcons. Should be in your price range. It is a couple blocks from the Odeon metro stop in the 6th. A couple doors down from there is Hotel Delavigne (sp), I've heard good things about it. I haven't stayed there but did look into the lobby area and it looked nice, FWIW.

I also just stayed at Hotel Monge in the 5th. It was 106 euros without breakfast. Near the Monge and Cardinal Lemoine metro stops.

If you don't mind not having a TV (some say it's a good thing not to have one) I recommend the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles in the Latin Qtr. (5th dist.). The hotel is located a few blocks from the Seine, rues Monge and Mouffetard, and the Pantheon. Its known for its garden setting.

I'm also a fan of the Mansart--a mostly undiscovered gem in a great location.

We have liked Hotel Le Clement in the 6th--close to the Odeon metro, as well as the Mabillon metro. Many cafes, markets, etc. nearby. Rooms on the street side are nicer.

We stayed at the Hotel Jeanne d'Arc in the Marais last April. I believe the price was 135EU. The hotel is very popular and books several months in advance. The rooms aren't spectacular but they are clean and comfortable and the bathrooms are nice. The staff is lovely and the location can't be beat. We'd definitely stay there again.

I really like Hotel St. Thomas D'Aquine, ideally situated on the border of the 6th and 7th, and just minutes both to the Seine and Blvd. St. Germaine. Recently renovated and the street was quiet (really!).

I'll also heartily recommend the Grandes Ecoles.

We stayed a week at the Hotel St. Paul le Marais, right near the metro stop of the same name. They have doubles for 138 Euro. Easy walk to Place de Vosges, a bit further to Batille area...it is on Rue Sevigne in the heart of the Marais.

Modern well lit bathroom, lots of cafés and restaurants -- Novotel Bercy 98 €. Novotel Vaugirard 98 €. Novotel Gare de Lyon 98 €. Of course, I must admit that Accor Hotels is also the owner of Motel 6.

We stayed at the Hotel Parc St. Severin in the Latin Quarter in May for about €125 a night. It is quite close to the St. Michel metro station. It was pretty and comfortable, but ask for a side room. Ours was in the front, we needed the windows open, and it was noisy from young people partying at a couple of restaurants below us. Bathroom was roomy and good.

That rate didn't include breakfast, but it is available, either light or full; or there is a Paul's quite close if you prefer it.

Ok I have a bit more specificity on the ideal hotel I'm looking for and here is the list:
No specific area
150Euro range
Modern bathroom with decent lighting, toliet and shower- no funky plumbing
Room decent size(i.e. no having to leave the room to change your mind)
Non smoking room
Air conditioning
Elevator in the hotel
Hotel restaurant/breakfast area not located in a basement with no windows.
Near a metro stop
Near some simple cafes, markets, pastry and crepe shops- we like real simple meals (read - non gourmet).
Room furnishings nice- not motel 6 ambiance.
Helpful if you can provide pictures and/or links.

BillT - My sister and I spent a week in Paris at Hotel Tourisme in the 15th arr. Maybe this might fit your bill:

No specific area - hotel is in the 15th.

150Euro range - We paid 83 Euro per night. I'm sure their rate won't be higher than that come the spring time.

Modern bathroom with decent lighting, toliet and shower- no funky plumbing - Bathroom was good, bright lighting as well. It wasn't huge, but it was adequate. The tub had a shower, but it was the hand held type.

Room decent size(i.e. no having to leave the room to change your mind)- Our room had twin beds. It wasn't a small room, but it wasn't huge in terms of space.

Non smoking room - room was a non-smoking room.

Air conditioning - yes, I can attest that this room had a/c as my sister had it set pretty low!

Elevator in the hotel - yep, but very small - pretty much 1 person and their luggage.

Hotel restaurant/breakfast area not located in a basement with no windows. - They do have an area (with windows) to eat breakfast. There's also room service too.

Near a metro stop - there are 2 metro stops near this hotel: 1 that's a few feet from the hotel and the other one is above ground (Lamotte Picquet Grenelle). Talk about convenience.

Near some simple cafes, markets, pastry and crepe shops- we like real simple meals (read - non gourmet). - This hotel is close to an intersection, and there are a few cafes there, as well as a McDonalds (hey, simple meal) and a Monoprix.

Room furnishings nice- not motel 6 ambiance. - Basic furnishings in the room.

Would I stay there again? Yes. The location was ideal IMO. I took pictures, but haven't decided on a photo sharing site to post them.

BillT - did you take a look at the 3 I recommended. They all fit your criteria except Monge might be too inexpensive for you.
