Paris: Hotel Verneiul or Hotel Henry IV Rive Gauche?

After searching this website endlessly, I am still confused. I have read great things about Henry IV but have found very little on Hotel Verneuil.

Both hotels are in the 6th, Verneuil is closer to the 7th and Henry IV closer to the 5th. Is there a big difference in location?

I need to stay between 150-200 Euros a night and be in a safe location because we're two women, 21 and 23. I don't really care about the size of the hotel and would want a larger hotel room, but prefer a quaint hotel room over a barely decorated room. We'll be traveling from March 11-18.

Thanks in advance!!

I cannot comment from first hand experience, but wanted to post, since I was also in your situation. I am travelling alone to Paris from March 1-10 and wanted to sleep somewhere charming, and in a safe neighborhood, within your same budget. After mulling over Hotel Vernuil and Jardin de L'Odeon in the 6th. I chose the latter. I did a little research on another board (TA) and Jardin de L'Odeon didn't have one negative review. I was sold. It looks very quaint from the website and the reviewer photos match what is on the actual hotel site exactly. Good luck!

Although I have no personal experience with any of the above hotels, based on the Tripadvisor comments, I'd say that the Henry IV Rive Gauche would be the best choice. The standard rooms at the Verneuil are very small, so you would have to pay 200€ for a deluxe. At Jardin de l'Odeon, there is evidently some exterior noise from nearby jazz club and interior noise from the other rooms' occupants. Comments about Henry IV imply that room size is not as severely small as usual and that the decor is nice. Doubles/twins are about 162€ - the location is very good.

I stayed at Hotel Henri IV and loved it, as well my prents. The triple we had was huge and the double my parents had was also quite large. Just a block from the Seine. Ask for a double on an upper floor facing rue de St. Jacques. When you open the windows to the street you will have a full commanding view of St. Severin across the street anf the Eiffel tower in the distance behind it.

Rooms at the Verneiul are tiny. Location is good.

I stayed at the Hotel Verneuil twice, once in a standard double room and later on in a deluxe double room. It's a nicely located hotel just a couple of blocks from Blvd. St. Germain and a few blocks to Rue de Buci and the Laduree on rues Bonaparte and Jacob. If you wish to walk to the Musee d' Orsay it's possible as the hotel is within walking distance. This actually helped us when we wanted to get to the museum early for its free first Sun. in the month opening.

If you decide to stay at the Verneuil I highly recommend that you book a deluxe double room. The standards are extremely tiny with room just enough for the bed and not much else. The elevator begins one flight up from the reception and no one helps you or offers to help with your luggage. The staff are friendly and helpful for the most part except for one receptionist who, while allright, is not so helpful at times. She did not know the opening times of the Musee d' Orsay offhand and suggested I call.
