Paris hotel suggestions
I will be in Paris in Sept.2000. I am looking for an inexpensive hotel that is quiet, clean, and hopefully the staff would know a little English. Offbeat is fine. I am looking for a place with some character.

Lynn
As in next month?! Most small decent hotels with character are popular, and may already be fully booked.
Can you define inexpensive, so that people can quickly give you some appropriate suggestions?
Paris hotels are a popular topic on this forum, you can try doing a Search or just scrolling down over the past several weeks.
good luck

You're really going to have to scramble to find a decent hotel this late in the game. I would concentrate my search in the 5th and 6th arrondisements and keep my fingers crossed. Better get moving!

Try www.hotelboulevard.com. They have pictures. I am going to be in Paris in September and, due to a change in plans, I needed a hotel for one night. I was able to get one about two weeks ago through them.

for hotel information you can also try www.paris.org, among other websites.
Try looking for the following hotels which have been recommended on this forum
Port Royal, Champs de Mars,Leveque,Familia,Grandes Ecoles,
Muguet, Regent's (not the same as le Regent), Danube.

Don't worry Lynn - I am going to be in Paris for one night on Sept 30 and I just booked my room at the Hotel des Deux Continents this morning (915FF double room not including breakfast).

Use http://www.france-hotels.net. They found both the Deux Continents and another hotel (Hotel du Senat, also in the 6e arrondisement) for me right away. I had also tried hotelboulevard.com, but all they had were Ibis (chain) hotels due to the short notice. Maybe you will have better luck with them, but I was very happy with france-hotels.net. They also offer shuttle service to and from the airport in addition to finding hotels.

I normally wing it with accomodations when I travel, but not in Paris!!

Although some do not appreciate her advice, margo@helloeurope has a book in the stores with hotels 50-99 USD per night. Also the Gustafsen Cheap Sleeps series is a good one. I have used both for my upcoming trip. It might be easier to be in the outlying arrondisments.

I just posted a positive review of Hotel Muguet. It is in the 7th district, close to Eiffel Tower and in a very quiet neighborhood. I thought for 560 francs it was very good value.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn near the Eiffel Tower. I was able to book it in advance. It was $100/night and all the staff speaks english. You can just call Holiday Inn's 800# to make the reservation.
