Thanks again every one!

Don't know the Suez, have stayed at the Minerve on several occasions. Great location, walking distance to Notre Dame, good area, lots of restaurants and markets, and convenient to many metro stops. Found it basic, clean, and the staff helpful. Nice large lobby for relaxing after a long day

cooncat: look at the following thread. There is something about the Suez in there. I checked the Suez out and it looked good but I haven't stayed there:

Adam - thanks but that thread was about the Cotswolds! Do you think Suez is in a good location? I've stayed in Marais and in the 7th but never the Latin Quarter.

Hotel de Suez:
"...Author: bofatooma Date: 12/25/2004, 01:18 pm
my wife and i with our two children (3 and 4) stayed there on september 2003 for one week. We thought the room was grate for the price and the location was perfect becuse of the shopping streets close by and the luxembourg garden where the children can play and more than one undergraound station close by. The only thing was that our room was facing the street and it was noisy with all the buses passing by..."

"...We stayed at the Hotel de Suez on the Blvd. St. Michel, about a block north of Blvd. St. Germain. Very, very convenientally located, within walking distance of Notre Dame, the Louvre, San Germain du Pres, Ile St. Louis, the Seine and much more.....small but pristinely clean and perfectly suitable room, with a really great shower. Also cable TV. The staff at reception was pleasant but somewhat distant.....The room facing the street was exceptionally noisy with the windows open, but pretty quiet with them closed..."

Hotel Minerve:
Several positive, favorable comments on Tripadvisor but also 2 that mention there were bedbugs last fall.
I have read comments about Familia that state there was a lot of noise (Minerve is next door) so I don't think the noise factor should disqualify Hotel de Suez. Close the windows and bring earplugs just in case.

I think both locations are fine, although I probably prefer the Suez because I like being near the Gardens and that general area more than where the Familia is (which I don't like as well). This is even though being right on bd St Michel would be noisy, and that boulevard is not very scenic anymore, for sure. I think it is more convenient for other things also (such as close to two different metro/RER lines, not just one--stores nearby I like shopping at but not around the Familia, etc.)

Both are major streets, actually, although bd St Michel is a bit more of a major artery. But I think if you have a room looking right out on either one, it won't be quiet unless you can close windows and they are double-glazed and/or you are in back.

I'd prefer the Suez for location, but haven't stayed in either.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going with Suez. The price is 95 euros as opposed to 130 for the Minerve. I'm going to look a bit more, but with my time limitations I think I better pounce on this! I'll report back upon my return!
