Ah, when you fill out the name, etc., it tells you there's nothing available. That was what happened yesterday also. Try it and see. I then get a page of other affiliated hotels, none of which seems suitable.

Cybervasion shows the Appi as 'not avail' for Jan 19 and 20. Hotel de la Vallee 84-86 rue Saint Denis (fun street :O ) shows a single for 46€, washbasin only http://www.paris-hotel-lavallee.com/ |
Ah! Sorry for spinning you in circles on this. I blame the weather :).
|
Thanks. I looked at de la Vallee and you can get ensuite too. But I wonder what the difference is between +shower and +shower/wc. Does the first mean that the toilet is down the hall, kinda thing? It seems odd to have a private shower but not private toilet though.
|
WT, no worries. You're so helpful in helping me save $ that I take all the help I can get. Also normally you're careful with these things and I thought I could be doing something wrong.
|
Yes, you can have a room with a shower in the room and no toilet. Who knows why they do that, but it's probably related to old building restrictions.
|
Maybe I'll go back to single at Cyrnos. I can't believe I'm worrying about saving $50. If I book in euros on RTG, I save a few dollars, and I've about $2 credit from a previous booking.
But I'm sort of curious about Ste-Marie. I wonder if there're some ensuite rooms. The website just says shower. I'm not sure what this means as there's no shower+wc combo as for Vallee. |
My guess is that only the triple at Sainte-Marie is ensuite, but I guess it doesn't specifically say that. Maybe the triple has nothing at all, since it's not followed by any descriptive terms. If you do go there, be sure to ask :).
|
You got me to look in my e-mail confirmation, which doesn't say what the rooms actually have either. But I checked some TA reviews and I do believe that there must be some double ensuite rooms. But since I booked the single + shower option, I don't know for sure.
Maybe I should just go with my usual backup this time. I mean, $50 is not that much money, really, though I'm acting like I care about every cent. :-) I actually like the location of Vallee but if you opt for the bathroom it's not actually so cheap anymore. Perhaps I should consider Hotel Alixia in Antony? :-) |
Did you cross-compare the locations of Sainte-Marie vs. Cyrnos? I'd guess Sainte-Marie is a tad closer to where you want to be, but maybe the neighborhood is rougher. Of course we are probably talking about a distance of 200m, but some decisions cannot be overanalyzed :).
|
I think they are very close, as you mentioned. Vallee has the best location for me as far as I can tell. I prefer further south. But somehow I wasn't too keen on 62 euros. Maybe I'll reconsider.
I've stayed in Cyrnos before, so I realize that the location is not as far north as it seems on a map, so it's not that bad. It's also very convenient for Gare du Nord. It may be within walking distance, actually. |
Hi WillTravel, the rate for Cyrnos went up to 75 euros. Maybe there's something to be said about booking early. It's odd though.
|
I guess just like us, they are trying to maximize the amount of money they get. They've probably determined a good strategy for pricing.
The single room has a rate of 70 Euros one night, and 101 the next. The double is 75 Euros both nights. I guess they know most people won't bother trying to do two bookings, and the booking fees likely make it not worthwhile. |
Are we looking at the same dates? It's showing 75 euros for Jan. 19 and Jan. 20 for the single and 75 euros for Jan. 19 for the double and 90 for Jan. 20 for the double.
I think that I'm getting way too obsessed with my complicated itineraries. Now I can't enjoy. :-) It's more like how many destinations I can squeeze into one trip. :-) |
I was looking at those dates. Now I see what you see. Maybe I mis-saw the twin room?
|
But there wasn't a 101 euros room. I don't know. I can't understand these computer systems. :-)
You think Ste-Marie will be ok? I'm a little wary. |
I think the chances are excellent that you will survive your stay at Sainte-Marie. If you felt like rolling the dice, you could try bidding for a 2* or 3* in the Opera Quarter East zone on Priceline. But then you could end up somewhere in the 9th, although close to the 2nd.
One more possibility (hope the session works): http://tinyurl.com/yso5ho |
This looks interesting. But it's the same price as Ste-Marie and in the same general location. I wonder if there's a private bathroom?
I don't know how you find these deals! I don't have time to do a PL bid right now. I still can't figure out a way to fix my February trip. Shouldn't have bought the ticket so early! Are there tricks to saving on cancelation or rerouting fees you know of? :-) I don't know why I didn't think about going to Potsdam. |
Yes, according to this site, all rooms at Hotel Baby have a private shower/toilet.
http://www.hotel-baby-paris.federal-...page_en_1.html I think you bought tickets with no refund, but you could double-check that. If you do have to throw them away, in order to maximize your trip time, it's not necessarily the wrong thing to do. There's the stock market principle of "cut your losses". (I'm not sure which plan is best.) |
Well it doesn't make sense to throw all the tickets away. But maybe I can try to reroute and leave from Berlin.
However after reading some reviews for the Gruenewald exhibition I think that it'll be interesting to see this. The detour is costly though. But I've done other costly things before. :-) |
