Paris hotel room with fireplace?

I know this has been asked before but...

I am tentatively planning a trip to Paris between Christmas and New Years'. I would love to find a hotel with fireplaces IN the room. I have read some suggestions that a fireplace in the room is not as good as one in the lobby, but I think it would be quite romantic to have one right in the room.

Would also like charming more historic type decor, rather than a modern hotel. I love the look of the Hotel de Banville in the 17th (clawfoot tubs) but I don't think their rooms have fireplaces. Budget is around $300 a night.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Does it have to be in working order? Who is going to cut the wood or can it be gas?

Ah yes, a key detail. The fireplace must be working. Not sure about the gas vs. wood issue. But I have seen hotel rooms (like in a lodge) where they have a little basket of wood beside the fireplace, so I don't think I would need to bother bringing my ax on the plane to chop it myself

My friends honeymooned at the Hotel Etoile Pereire in the 17eme. I know they had a working fireplace...

Above sounds like a good sugggestion, I sure don't know of any (but very expensive hotels). However, having stayed in a room once with a working fireplace, it may be romantic, but the room smelled of smoke and it got into the sheets and my clothes. I didn't particularly like it.

We rented an apartment from www.guestapartment.fr/. It had a fireplace, although we didn't use it (smoke, mess, etc.). This company may have something for around $300/night.

Good luck.
