Paris, Hotel Recamier
Anyone know this hotel?
It's on Place St-Sulpice. I've already searched here (very little, and mostly old) and there's only one (positive) comment at tripadvisor.com.. paris.org has some comments, but they are undated. thanks |
Yes, it was a favorite of mine to dine there on the terrace. it previously drew the fashion crowd ( buyers, etc.)but it has changed hands . it's now a creperie, maybe La cigale, not sure. I've only seen the lobby and not the rooms.
|
I don't think the restaurant and the hotel of that name are the same location, or am I wrong?
|
The Recamier was the restant also but now it's changed hands, not sure of the name, I'll try to find out .

La Cigale Récamier 4 Rue Récamier (7th). This new location is absolutely wonderful. Cul-de-sac off Rue de Sèvers with a large quiet terrace, nicely decorated (plants, huge beige cotton umbrellas). The nice bistrot-style inside is also a lot larger than at the previous location (Rue Chomel). However, I was told that the terrace was already solid booked for every evening of that week. The menu does still focus on soufflés. Remains definitely on my list.

Cigale, I think you're referring to the restaurant Récamier, on rue Récamier near Sévres-Babylone metro, which as closed and is now the home of La Cigale.
elaine, I've seen the hotel, which is tucked away in place St-Sulpice at the side of the church, but never checked it out. The location is great, quiet in the evening but just steps from the restaurants of rue des Canettes, rue Guisarde area. This is the place on which Catherine Deneuve lives, by the way. Sandra Gustafson's Cheap Sleeps has an okay review, mentioning "drab brown hallways" leading to "neat and clean style-free rooms where you will see egg-yolk yellow chenille bedspreads set against pink floral wallpaper." ((H)) |
p.S. this information i got fast for you was from Ursula, a member of the bonjourparis forum. She's in Paris so often, (lucky woman lives in Switzerland)She knows all the restaurants and where to shop. We all rely on her updates.
|
So I guess the hotel and restaurant, whatever the current name, are separate since the hotel is in the 6th at St Sulpice.
Anyone actually stayed at the hotel recently? |
"egg-yolk yellow chenille bedspreads set against pink floral wallpaper." No wonder the need for sunglasses!

LOL
|
still seeking comments or recommendations, but fyi
they faxed me their current rates (for a December stay): single with one large bed and shower, breafast and taxes included, is 117e. This is a bit more than the Grands Balcons which I was previously leaning toward, which quoted 80e plus 10e for breakfast. fax number of Recamier is 1 46 33 27 73. |

Jeff, thanks, I had seen that, but the reference to staying there was from a few years ago.
|
YOu don't see it mentioned often on here, but FWIW, there was a good write-up about it in a newsletter I get, Paris Notes. That was at least five years ago, probably, and mentioned it as a good very budget choice in that area (where there are few budget hotels). It did sound truly like a very budget hotel, however, but good for those wanting cheap digs in that location.
