Paris hotel - one night
 

First off, don't make the same mistake I did and Google "one night in Paris" unless you want to see Paris Hilton's porn video.

At the end our our May 2008 France trip, we will be taking the TGV into Paris the day before we fly back home. At the front end of our trip, we will be renting an apartment in Paris, so we can't go back there (min. # of nights).

Could someone suggest a hotel for one night that is easily accessible from Gare Lyon (for TGV) as well as CDG?

Though we will only be staying one night, it's the last evening of our trip, so I would like to stay in as a nice place as possible for around $200.

I've read posts on this forum as well as tripadvisor, and would love any first hand feedback you all might have.

Is the Gare de Lyon terminus of your trip cast in stone? Because depending on where you're coming from, it might be more convenient to ride the TGV right into CDG and stay at an airport hotel for that last night.

Failing that, any hotel along the RER B line (which runs down the center of Paris between the Ve and VIe <i>arrondissements</i>) should be fine for your purposes. Many regulars here like the www.hotelbonaparte.fr, just a little walk downhill from the Luxembourg station. From there, it's downhill to RER St-Michel Notre-Dame.

lauraallais - If you hit Paris on either a Fri, Sat, Sun, you may want to check the Ibis Hotel at La Defense. Their rates do down to around 49euros for a room. During the week it's 120E. The metro goes directly to Champs Elysees. That's if you luck out at the Bonaparte which is in an ideal spot for walking the Latin Quarter and nearby islands.

Another great little hotel near St.Sulpice is Hotel Re`camier, 3bis St.Sulpice. Fax: 01 46 33 27 73.

Or, Hotel Perryve, rue Madame. Right next to the Luxembourg Gardens.

There is also the Hotel Le Notre Dame, which is across the street from the RER to the airport. Views of Seine, Notre Dame, plenty of restaurants nearby, Seine river cruise, etc. I stayed there several years ago, top floor loft, with sunrise over the Cathedral from our window. Was not noisy.

At the airport, I stayed at the Sofitel in August, which was a 5 min shuttle from the airport. I booked on the internet and paid only 100 euros. It was VERY nice, breakfast included.

There are other Ibis hotels that have the 49 Euro special periodically, as well, including, possibly some that are near the Gare de Lyon. However, I doubt they would fit your criteria of &quot;as nice a place as possible&quot; (and the Bonaparte probably would not either).

Just returned from Paris and stayed at this place www.hoteljardindecluny.com. 5 minutes walk from the RER B station at St Michel - Notre Dame and around the price range you mention. Small but perfectly formed.

There are lots of hotels that are possible right near the RER B line to the airport (Luxembourg or St Michel stop). I personally wouldn't recommend the Bonaparte for this goal, it isn't that close to those stops -- about one km away from either. That may be your idea of fun to walk to/from that hotel with your luggage when you are only there one night, but I can't see why when there are so many hotels much closer in that price range.

Within a block or two of the Luxembourg stop, these ought to be in that range:
Hotel de la Sorbonne, Cluny Sorbonne, Cujas Pantheon

Within a block or two of St Michel:
Parc St Severin

There are lots of others, but those are ones I think are 125 euro or less per night.

The most totally unique hotel in Paris and one that has to have the finest view is the Hotel Everland, which opened its doors Nov 4, 2007.

This is unlike any hotel in Europe - a traveling Swiss luxury hotel room that is incredibly perched atop the Palais de Tokyo, the contemporary art museum smack across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower.

The Everland is a mobile hotel ('trailer trash' i guess) that has a single room, bathroom and king-size bed, mini-bar and large picture window overlooking the city from its roof-top perch.

It tops the Toyko Palace because during the day it's part of that museum's temporary exhibitions and can be viewed by patrons before it assumes its hotel function at night.

(Only one-night stays are allowed; accommodations for the room are provided by a local luxury hotel; will be in place thru end of 2008: booking info - good luck - www.everland.ch)

The mobile hotel was designed by two eminent Swiss artists for the Swiss Nation Exhibition in 2002 and was later perched on the top of an art museum in Leipzig in 2006. This is the final stop for the mobile hotel.

..an authentic historic reproduction in period style.

A friend and I just stayed at the Hotel Choiseul, rue Dainou. It's about five miniutes walk to the Roissy bus that goes to CDG airport, the bus leaves from behind the Opera Garnier. The rooms are larger than normal and the bathroom was also a good size. Very pleasant staff and reasonably priced. I would certainly stay there again.

PalenQ - is there really a lottery? Where do I find it?

the info i had did say full open minibar so maybe all the booze you want is included.

Web page says it is booked up for ages. I don't much like such modern rooms anyway, but the webcam is GREAT.
