Paris hotel - Hotel de L'Alma
 

Hello -
I am planning on spending five nights in Paris in September and am looking at staying at the Hotel de L'Alma at 32 rue de L'Exposition.
Has anyone stayed there? Or, have any thougths on the location (7th, I think). We like night life in that we enjoy a good dinner, wine, sitting out at cafes and am a little worried that this area doesn't have that...
I would love your thoughts...thanks!
I wasn't able to find any reference to this hotel on tripadvisor or on a previous forum.

I've never stayed there but looked into it. It is on a VERY noisy tourist street, but if you arent worried about that I believe the reviews are good.

You can search above type in hotel d alma and you should get a bunch of threads. Or type paris budget hotel and you will get hundreds of other choices

This is one of our favorite areas; upper middle-class residential area with relatively few hotels. The greatest congregation of Michelin "Bib Gourmand" restaurants (great food for a reasonable price)in Paris. Lots of cafes; definitely try Cafe Constant, a short walk from your hotel. Good choice! Rue de l'Exposition has at least 2 of our favorite restaurants--Le Petit Trocquet and Auberge de Champ de Mars. I am trying hard to picture it as "noisy" and touristy. It is narrow little street ``

I was going to say the same thing - it's a one-lane street, can't imagine how it could be that noisy. Jamikens, please explain your comment or experience on that...
Also, hotel has been recently renovated according to most websites; the bedroom photos on their own website are definitely different from past decor.

I swear they raised the double room rate on their site, though - I had noted it as being 107E, not 120E. At least 2 other sites still list it at 107E, and bookings.org has a double for 99E.

SaveThePanda,if you do a search for "restaurants and 7th" you should find some recommendations. There were a couple of threads in the past 2-3 months.

I can see how you got momentarily confused! that was rue de la Huchette, I think.. very touristy, very noisy, yes!

Hotel d'Albe, yes, it's on rue de la Harpe. And it is on a very very busy street! But if you request an upper floor room it should be allright for the noise.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think we will plan on staying in the 7th. Someone else recommended the Hotel Muguet at 11 rue Chevert...and they too have availability. So many choices! Either way, I am sure we will have a wonderful time.

We stayed at this hotel this past May. It is on a narrow street and pretty quiet, for the most part. I thought the location to be quite good - there is a cafe right across the street where we picked up coffee each morning, and also a bakery where we picked up croissants.

The hotel is a few blocks from the Ecole Militaire metro stop, but be aware this stop closes at approximately 9:00 each evening. There is another metro stop close by that we used if the Ecole Militaire stop had closed, but I don't recall the name.

We paid 107 Euros per night, which I felt was a great deal for that area. The rooms were ok, nothing really special, but it was clean and a good size for the price. The breakfast is 6 Euros, but we decided to find breakfast on our own.

Lots of cafes in the area, as well as the Rue Cler market - but we never had the opportunity to check this out.

I would say it appeared to be primarily a residential area with a few hotels thrown in - definitely not too touristy. It's about a 10 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower.

For the same price the Muguet would be a good choice.
And I do not EVER remember the Ecole Militaire metro being closed. Perhaps one end but not the entire station, unless it was a temporary repair situation.

Gretchen, when was the last time you were in Paris? We were there just in May. The entire Ecole Militaire station closed each evening at about 9:00 p.m., but was open from early morning and during the rest of the day. I don't know if there was construction going on or not - there were some boards up around one of the entrances, but we never saw any work going on. Maybe this isn't the normal situation, but it existed pretty recently.

The route signs in the cars also had one of those circular symbols that appeared to be moon on a night background above the Ecole Militaire stop. It was after the metro completely zoomed past our stop the first night did we figure out what that symbol meant.

I think the metro station was closed at night for repairs; it is no longer listed in the "travaux" section on ratp.fr.
The other stop may be Latour-maubourg, closer to Invalides.

Thank you for your thoughts. I will probably stay at either the L'Alma or the Muguet. Unfortunatly, the Muguet does not have any rooms available with a view they said...so it makes the less expensive D'Alma more interesting. It is amazing how fast things book up for late September. Happy travels.
