Going to Paris in May 2014 looking for a hotel, its my first visit and I want to see all the sights. I was looking at Hotel Dauphine Saint Germain. What do you guys think? Any other suggestions?

Funny you should ask about the HOTEL DAUPHINE. As ParisAmstedam suggests, Susan001 describes the hotel very well in her current trip report. She was kind enough to mention that she chose that hotel at my suggestion.

If you click on my name, you can see my description of the Dauphine in my 2012 solo trip report to Paris and beyond. The hotel was first suggested to me by my neighbor who had stayed there the year before.

Remember this is a small, typically French hotel with smallish rooms but commodious, modern baths. Clean and comfortable with a fabulous location a few minutes from Pont Neuf and Notre Dame. This is not the Ritz Carlton, but I was more than satisfied and feel comfortable in recommending it.

I am sure that there are many other 3 start hotels which are comparable. Enjoy Paris wherever you stay.

good location right near fresh markets ...a close friend has stayed there and her tastes are similar to mine...relatives of hers also recommended it

i know this is not first hand experience yet but it has got good reviews

Lanejohann, no doubt, word of mouth by someone you know and trust is the best way to go - now you can plan the rest of your trip...

Hotel Turenne is on avenue de Tourville rather than Toulouse... We stayed there in 2001, back then a decent slightly worn 2* hotel, no A/C or mini-fridge. Found the street side room to be rather noisy with traffic although we typically can sleep ok with that. The hotel (based on photos) has been 'refreshed' and I think some rooms now have a/c available. While near the Eiffel/Champ de Mars and the 'infamous' rue Cler, we found it to be rather shuttered in the evenings for our after-dinner strolling, and so did not go back to the area in later trips. Hotel Turenne would be fine if you can save some money staying there.
I have not stayed in the Hotel Dauphine to compare but I imagine it is probably a little nicer and the location is definitely busier and much more central. 'Fresh' markets are all over Paris.

Are there any hotels or B & B's that anyone can recommend in the Marais area?
