Paris hotel help
 

AM trying to select among a few hotels and would appreciate help from anyone who has stayed at: Left Bank St.Germain, Hotel des Marroniers or Hotel d' Aubusson. Best Choice???? Going in July so we want air-conditioning---if you have other favorites, please suggest. Thanks!

I'll start out by saying that the Marroniers is often praised just about anywhere you read, but I stayed there one night once, and we left the next morning. We thought that for the price that the room (standard double) was too excruciatingly small. Front desk staff was cranky but that was less important.
Our room had a double bed placed between a window wall and an armoire, which meant we couldn't open the armoire door all the way, and also the armoire was half length, so coats, skirts, etc, crumpled up at the bottom. No drawer space at all, so we had to keep our suitcases out, and there was barely floor space to walk around them. Perhaps we just had bad luck, and this was a number of years ago.

I love the d'Aubusson based on my experience from 3 or so years ago.
We had a superior twin room on that occasion. Very nicely sized, great bathroom, amenities very nice like terry robes, and toiletries. Great location, pleasant staff, good if pricey breakfast. Also the Museum pass was sold at face value at the front desk. I love that hotel.

I second Elaine in her recommendation of the D'Aubusson. The location is wonderful, the front desk staff friendly, polite and helpful. The rooms a very comfortable and the baths big, or at least mine were. I stayed there twice last year and will be there again this April.

From what I've read d'Aubusson and Left Bank are excellent and have good a/c.

A friend of ours who goes to Paris several times a year loves the d'Aubusson. We haven't stayed there, hwoever, so I can't comment; but our personal favorite on the Left Bank is the Hôtel Le Madison.

The du Aubusson and the des Marroniers are very different! The Marroniers is also doing renovations...at least they were in November.


D'Aubusson is FIRST RATE! a less expensive alternative might be their 3 star hotel..the Millesime.. their superior rooms are 4 star in my estimation.

This year we were delighted with the superior rooms at the du Danube. What we saved on the room just about paid for one dinner each night!

We stayed at the Hotel Left Bank for two weeks once and again for a few days. We did the superior "triple" rooms for two of us, which gave us a daybed to use for luggage (there were no drawers to put stuff away, and a tiny cabinet of a closet). The rooms were very dark as they were on the back and only opened with a small window to a very small and dark "inner courtyard". The bath was huge and extremely nice. The rooms were charming and very nicely furnished with walls fully upholstered in a beautiful toile fabric, and rustic beams on ceiling and walls. We had a bit of a problem with the air in that we nearly froze and there is no way to control your own.
After staying there, we "discovered" Le Regent a block away with nicer superior rooms, which had individually controlled air, and two large windows which made them infinitely brighter and cheerier. As a recall the superior rooms at Le Regent were also a little less expensive than the superior ones at Left Bank -- we thought it was a much better choice.

We stayed at the Hotel Left Bank during the heatwave in August. Our room was on the 5th floor at the back, looked out over the inner courtyard, but being higher was not dark.
It was very nicely furnished as Patrick mentioned, we had a room with queen bed, and had plenty of room to hang clothes etc, bathroom was large and had a shower curtain. We found the a/c very good, staff very pleasant and we like the location. Have also stayed at the Madison a couple of years previously, room was about the same, we had a superior room there.

The last time I checked out the Danube it did not have a/c.

That's true, the Danube doesn't have a/c. So if you're going in July look elsewhere.
