Paris hotel for those with limited walking

We're looking for a Paris hotel that has either ground floor rooms or a lift. Our price range is under 700 FF for a triple or double with rollaway. We would like something near a metro station with escalators or lift. In 1995 we stayed on Rue Cler, but the Metro station there had many stairs and I have limited walking ability.
Thanks in advance for your help!

While the Paris Metro system is great, all of the stations I experienced had stairs and long hallways to walk. I started using the buses toward the end of my stay and was pleasantly surprised. You can take in all of the scenery as you ride to your destination and get off when you like. There is a website about the buses with route maps, but I no longer have it. Maybe someone will know it. I use a little book called The Paris Mapguide and it shows bus numbers and directions of their routes in each arrondissements. You could look for a location that appeals to you, near a convenient bus stop, and start your hotel search there. Good luck! Peg

Hi Janet
I can't speak to how many stairs or if there are lifts in the respective metro stations (no doubt some metro expert here will know), but among many choices recommended on this forum and elsewhere: two star Hotel Champ de Mars (7 Rue du Champ de Mars,
45-51-52-40, fax 45-51-64-36) has an elevator, and I believe is in your price range. Metro: Ecole Militaire. Also, Palais Bourbon: 49, rue Bourgogne. Tel: 0144113070. Fax: 0145552021. E-mail: [email protected] metro: Varenne
You can search for previous comments on this forum, or else look under
www.hotelboulevard.com or
www.paris.org

I agree with Peg, you may be better off with buses.
bus and metro maps and perhaps info on elevators:
www.ratp.fr
http://www.paris.org/Metro/
In any metro station you can ask for the Grand Plan de Paris. It is an excellent bus map, and a metro map.
I also like the Paris MapGuide Peg mentioned, and also City Flash Paris, includes taxi stands, maps of Charles DeGaulle airport, clear metro and bus map.
good luck
Last year we stayed at the Residence Hotel Trocadero which had a Metro stop right next to it (at the Trocadero). There were stairs tho, all Metro stops have stairs I'm afraid. The hotel has a lift however. The rooms were quite small (bathroom was good sized tho) but we did like the location (because the Metro was 2 steps away so to speak). It's a Best Western Affiliated Hotel and you can access info via BW's web site. Most metro stations are full of stairs, you really might want to think more about buses, despite many trips to Paris I'm no expert on them however. Occasionally cabs are worthwhile too (like on the weekend when traffic is not so congested in the city).

We've stayed near Les Halles before, and the metro there can be accessed via an escalator. Can't remember if the hotel had an elevator - we used the stairs.

Speaking of Les Halles there is a large Novatel Hotel right there (we stayed there a few years ago). It's a nice hotel, great breakfast buffet, average rooms but very eary to the Metro - as Anne said there are escalators there. There is a lovely church diagonal from the Novatel too - St. Eustache's - very nice if your room looks across at it! We also stayed at the Cayre on Blvd. Raspail one time, the Metro is at Rue de Bac which was practically outside our door. For under 700FF tho I'd check out the Best Western website I referenced above, they have many hotels in that range and most will list how close they are to the Metro as well, if you are not sure you can e-mail the hotels directly.
