Paris hotel for son and Thai daughter

We will be renting an apartment in Paris (near des invalides) for a week in mid-July. Our 19 year old son and our 26 year old Thai daugther (exchange student from years before now studying hotel administration is Switzerland) will be staying with us. My husband and I must leave on a Saturday but would like son/daughter to stay a few more days. The apartment cannot be extended. Can someone suggest a decent hotel for the two of them? One room, twin beds would suffice. I am thinking the St. Michel area?

Knowing your budget would help us give you recommendations.

BTW, what on earth does your daughter being Thai have to do with anything? I was not aware that Parisian hoteliers charge extra for being Thai.

Perhaps that reply was less than helpful.

Here is a link to the Left Bank Hotel Thread on this Forum:
http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...ank-thread.cfm Plenty of hotels listed there in all price ranges.

The St Michel area might be fun for themm. They could try the Hotel College de France or the Hotel Sorbonne. They are definitely both decent. There are really so many hotels in that area that might be suitable, but the Sorbonne is very near the Luxembourg RER stop which might be convenient if going to the airport later.

Budget? 100 to 150 euros per night? I like the idea of the Sorbonne being near the RER stop for airport service. And being Thai is just to explain the relationship which doesn't really explain it anyway. I always refer to her as my Thai daughter as opposed to my Hmong daughters, Japanese daughter, or Russian daughter. But if you think I could get a discount for her????? Just kidding.

nukesafe, I agree with you, what does being Thai have to do with anything?

maile: This is a wonderful hotel near your apartment so they don't have far to move. It's also in an excellent spot. It's incredibly clean and non-smoking.

In my experience lots of hosts of exchange students call their students my____daughter or sister for the rest of their lives. I have a friend in her sixties who talks about "my Norwegian sister"" all the time to differentiate from her "French" sister or her actual blood sister.

jubilada, you are right about the ____ daughter or sister. I actually adopted my Hmong daughters but the other " ____ daughters" have been one year exchange students who grew up with my children at various times. Looked at both the Hotel Muguet and Sorbonne. Any other suggestions out there? Geared to the younger crowd?

She may be your "thai daughter" to you - but the fact is immaterial to the hotel question - and IMHO did strike rather an odd note - as if she would have special requirements or something.

Nothing wrong with it - just delays one from answering the real question.

I'm staying at the Hotel des Carmes in a couple of weeks. It is 89euro for a single. I've never stayed there but someone here recommended it. I've stayed at Grand Hotel des Balcons, near the Odeon metro and liked it and the location a lot. It should be in your budget also.

They could try the Best Western Quartier Latin Pantheon, not far from Sorbonne and Saint Michel area.
Have a good trip!

Hi maile,

In Paris, we always stay at the Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th. From 138E for a twin bedded room w/bkfst. It is just around the corner from Place St. Sulpice, near 3 metro stops and 4 bus routes. Has AC and an elevator.

The staff speaks English well, and is very helpful. The front desk is staffed 24/7

They can arrange a shuttle pickup to/from CDG for you.

So guess I should quit saying "my Japanese friend" and "my Russian friend". Perhaps the OP said it because she is proud of the fact that they have such a close relationship with a person from another country/culture.

Why did you pick the HOtel Muguet? It just isn't geared to the younger crowd and I don't know why they would want to stay in that area.

They could stay right outside the doors of Notre Dame Cathedral if there is still space - we loved it there:

OR

They would be quite used to the city by now and save huge money by booking right now on the Ibis Hotel Website for the 'Happy 20' room deal - 44 euros for a twin or double:

Hi Ira, I should have remembered the Hotel Bonaparte from some of your past posts. I have a request to them now. Also the Hotel Dame Cathedral. Re the Notre Dame hotel on quai Saint Michel, I am finding the web site confusing with various prices and no way of finding out quickly whether or not there are twin bedded rooms available. I'll wait to see what happens with the other two before trying again.
Everyone: Many thanks again for helping me out with these suggestions. Sorry I got carried away with "my Thai daughter" aside. I am just excited to see her again.
