Paris Hotel For September 2010
 

Looks like we might have a chance to be in Paris for 4 nights in September. At this late date all my usual favorite budget hotels in the Marais are booked (like the Hotel Jeanne d'Arc). So, I thought maybe it’s time we stayed in a different area. I thought I remembered a thread discussing a few smaller hotels, a bit off the beaten path yet close to a metro stop etc. Of course I cannot locate the elusive thread so I’m starting a new post. Might be a fun experience to stay in a less tourist-populated area and try some neighborhood restaurants etc. Looking to keep the budget at 100 Euro or less (preferable less) per night for a double room, ensuite.

The only area I’m not really interested in is Montmartre. Any favorites in other areas you might want to share?

You'll get some recs here and there for budget hotels, but also look at these 80 budget hotels in central Paris.

That is a very cheap hotel rate for September, which is the peak rate period. So I might know some as I don't stay in the central areas, but not at that price.

I do know of one, though, this one which is out in the 12th arr. has rooms at that rate

I don't find the area that scintillating, but it is cheap and might be available.

Now this is another I know of, although I haven't stayed there. It is ony a 1* hotel, however, and actually cheaper and you have to email for reservations.

Thanks for the replies so far, it's been a big help. As I said this came up fast, I know September is a busy/expensive time in Paris which is why we are looking outside of the usual tourist-heavy areas for a place to stay.

Christina I had looked at the hotel Porte Doree, it did look like a possibility, and although the area is not a charmer that's ok, we won't be spending our time hanging out near the hotel. I appreciate your suggestions, if you think of anything else please add to the thread!

Also in the Latin Quarter, I recently stayed at Hotel Acte V (formerly Hotel Monge but renovated) and at Hotel des Carmes. Both are in your price range. Great locations, I liked the location of the Hotel des Carmes a little better though. I'd stay at either again.

dan2001, I don't think you are aware that September is peak hotel rates in Paris. You cannot get discounts. Four nights is not that long, although a lot of hotels may offer somewhat reduced rates for 3+ nights. But you aren't going to find a 3* hotel for 100 euro in central Paris in September.

That place you quote for example (le Parnasse) has doubles from 170-225 euro in September, even with a 4 nights stay. I suspect you are looking at rates for August which is low rate season. Same for the Grand Hotel l'Univers, their rates are also around 180-200 euro in September, they are only around 110 euro in August.

A lot of people who look at current rates think for some reason they will get those in September in Paris, but they won't. You aren't alone, for some reason, a lot of people think rates don't change in Paris by season, but they do.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, we have to finalize another part of this trip this weekend and then I will know our exact dates for Paris and can make our reservations.

Ira, love the idea of the Picpus being in a less-touristy area, thank you for the link.

Thanks for the replies, we have booked the Lux Hotel Picpus and I am glad Ira suggested it, it's looks nice, the reviews are good, and I really like the idea of staying in a less congested area.

I should add we booked 2 double rooms at 65EUR each, breakfast is available for an additional 8EUR per person, but we usually don't take breakfast at our hotel. I booked via email, received quick responses to my questions. The reservation can be cancelled 2 days prior to arrival if necessary.

Update (and hopefully at some point a separate trip report) Ira, I can't thank you enough - the hotel was PERFECT! Almost across the street from the Picpus metro, very short walk to Nation, we could easily get anywhere including to/from the airport. The rooms were simple but spotless, free wifi, refrigerator, lift, recently updated baths, friendly staff, and best of all away from the crowds. There were cafes, patisseries, and grocery stores very close by. I would not recommend it for first time visitors as I would think they would want something more central, but this hotel offers a very good value. I would not hesitate to stay there again.
